What the heck is wrong with it? When I go to view it it's red and flashy. WHAT DO I DO?!?! I already checked the manual..

Key a terrain to 'x' and 'o' and literally paint a picture. Afterwards, go into the advanced settings and create the height and depth terrain. It takes a lot of practice to make something as good looking as the sample data but some of the things I've created a really neat.

Yeah, it is definately going to take me a long time to make something that looks natural, and cool. Mastering the field editor is an art. And, right now, I'm about as adept at it as a lobotimized chimp.

The red part is the area that you cant walk in, after you click preview, click on the part of the map that you want to start at

          quick question.

are maps absolutely necessary this time?

in one they were pretty much pointless, 2 it was a bit too tough...

i've been doing good making dungeon only games but i'd like to see if i should at least try and branch out with 3.
the legends have returned...whenever i can finish these, lol.

maps, like where someone can look at to tell where they are on the field or dungeon? I haven't seen anything like that in the game yet, but I still haven't spent much time on it.

You don't necessarily have to have fields (world maps). You can make the exit to each town go straight into the next town. But there're also plenty of premade fields if you don't want to make your own.

in the past it's just been too much of a hassle. not exactly against them but i'm used to making a game world solely built of dungeons.

Anyone think world map takes away a lot of the feeling of a world?
I plan on making my RPG by adding fields, leaving the player free to explore at first (not everywhere) and if you come back to your village, you get the feeling, I went to river, but I wonder what was on the other side, Ill buy more potions then Ill check it out.

Like Quest 64, or Morrowind. No world map, a world itself. Planning on using ancestral portal to make travelling easier, but not in the beginning of the game...and at a certain point, evil will affect portal to bring you in another world....MOUAHAHAHHA.

interesting. sounds like it'd take too much space though.

Oh, yeah, RPGM1 worldmaps sucked. The RPGM3 ones are cool though, since I find the dungeons kinda bland in this game the fields bring a sense of a world to the player. They are sorta like the worldmaps for FF7. Freeroaming, and you can hide stuff in the forests, makes for fun times. Try them out.

i'll take it under advisement. really it depends on how they look.

Hey just to be sure, you use the field just as you would in Zelda Ocarine of time right? Like you go from a village to another.
Whats with the world map, is it 2d, 3d or what? What can you do on it? Fast travel or?

(Man if I just had the game like i was suppose to...lol)

The worldmap (or field editor) in this game is typical of early-playstation rpg's like Final Fantasy 7 where you have a 3D map and icons that you walk into. Technically you could create huge fields, but the way I have it set up is that my world (well, my game takes place on a small peninsula within a larger world) is broken up into about 5 provinces (you can link up to 20 fields together). Because I don't have as many locations as a multi-continent epic game, I can make my fields huge and give the player a sense of exploration.
