I just got Rpg maker 2 & a new keyboard...
This one is quite a bit more confusing than RPGM1.

I'm having a bit of trouble making items.

Say I want to make a potion that restores 50 HP...I am not quite sure how to go about this.

If some one could instruct me on how to do so it would really help me get the hang of it.

I know the guide could help for a beginner thing like this; what does the manual say? If not, I'm sure someone could explain it. Basically, copy the item and direct effect for the HealingHerb (or something) default item and edit it to your liking. Also, MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON HRD DIFFICULTY. It's best to start on Beg or Nrm then switch to Hrd so you have all the default stuff to work off of. Gl

I believe the healing herb does heal 50 HP, so in this case you can just change the name and discription to get the potion you want.

For other healing/damaging items, just change the rate to the HP gain/lose you want. Other preset items cover other effects and you can change the names of these items or make new, similar ones.

If you want to really experiment with new items, you are going to have to learn how Direct Effects work. When you copy an excisting item, you don't need to worry about the direct effect since the proper one is copied along with the item. But creating your own can be a lot of work.

I am working on an FAQ that will explain Direct effects (and many other advanced functions of RPG Maker 2), but for now it is easier to just copy, paste, and edit the excisting items.

I tried looking at the premade scripts & items, but I was more confused than ever.. x.x
When I start with all the premade data I'm only left with about 300k memory left & I'm not really sure what I will or wont use. I really just want to start fresh and learn how everything works step by step, Does the Prima Guide tell how everything works?

It's basically a reference guide, and tells most of the stuff that RPGM2 already tells you when you press start in certain places (that's what everyone else says, I haven't checked), along with a large section of thumbnails showing all the characters, objects, monsters, textures, and pre-made maps and buildings, which is perhaps the most helpful section in the whole guide.

When I finish MY FAQ, I'll go into detail on how to make items. If your confused by all the scripts and components to items then it is not wise to make items from scratch. You're better off sticking with the preset stuff. They cover most everything you would want anyway.

I was just a bit confused because i didnt know what the scripts do or how they are built.
I started fresh on hard mode and started examining all the scripts one by one.
I'm getting the idea slowly.
I'd also like to take a look at your FAQ when its done.

Well imma go watch One Piece nows so later.
