Think about how many people have iPods....

think of how many have apples.

Ipods can be used on both.

      Re: MP3 Players

I recommend one of the following three:

      iPod Photo

      Zen Creative Sleek

      iPod Nano

The iPod Photo and Nano have amazing sound quality as well as great battery life in contrast to previous iPods, the former remaining juiced after 12 hours of full-looping music at max volume with the backlight on. You won't have to worry about skipping and they integrate with iTunes seamlessly, as if it were actually part of the software, especially when it comes to creating playlists. The special "clickwheel" makes it easy to scroll through even thousands of song. In addition, the iPod Nano, unlike the Photo, uses flash memory, hence it's extreme thin-ness. It's lightning fast, though, and extremely responsive. Both have color displays for organizing photos and slideshows and such.

Also, they work jim-dandy with PCs, so you've no need to worry about compatibility.

They're a bit expensive in contrast to other players (a 20 Gig Photo costs $299, 2 Gig Nano $199). Still, they're top-quality products.

As for the Creative Zen Sleek, it lacks the software integration and color display the above iPods have, and it's interface takes a bit of getting used to, however it provides excellent battery life and easily comparable sound quality for a lower price (20 Gig models go for $199).

      Choose whichever you fancy.

So besides the gigs whats the difference between the nano and photo?

        20 gigs is a lot.

I like my 20 Gig i-River, but the newer models have adopted that stupid slider.

If you have a meticulously organized music folder, an i-River works well because it's plug & play, and also because it allows you to just pick songs from the file tree rather than having a database set up. You can choose to initiate the database with an i-River, but the initial loading time to start the system is sometimes up to 10 times the loading time without it. I prefer not to use the database, but that's me.

I think all i-Rivers have photo viewing, and the bigger HD models have voice recorders, so if you fancy recording your college lectures, this gets the job done. If not, you can always make funny files and easily upload them to your computer and then the internet, convert them to compressed audio and let us hear them!

You have to create a playlist on your computer, and then save that playlist to your MP3 player to do playlists. I don't bother with this too much, because I'm too fickle from moment to moment to have a preset playlist.

The i-River 20 Gig Photo that I have is a higher end model, and I think it's also slightly more expensive than the same type of model that you can get in an i-Pod.

And it has an FM tuner, but I think most MP3 players do these days.

I paid $320 for my i-River and I've never been happier.

I paid $200 for my 4gb Ipod Mini. It's got no bells and whistles. I plug it into my PC via USB, open up Itunes, drag songs from my library to my Ipod, remove Ipod, and then go about my merry way playing songs. For me its enough. I don't need high-tec fancy pictures and sound recording on my MUSIC player.

The Photo uses a hard disk to store the songs, whereas the Nano uses Flash memory.

The Nano is much slimmer and significantly smaller than the Photo (as thin as/thinner than a pencil).

The Photo's max battery life is 12 hours, whereas the Nano's lasts at least 14.

The Photo comes in iPod white, whereas the Nano comes in white and black.

Everything else is basically the same.

By the by, most of today's MP3 players allow you to store data from your PC like a portable external HDD/Flash Drive. Useful for when you wanna move files around computers quickly and don't have a Flash Drive.

Flash Memory or the other one.

It's not a big difference, just the Flash being solid-state and super-responsive.

Get a Dell DJ. I have an older model. It has what seems like a never ending batterylife (16 hours) and it has a built in voice recorder. You can also create and name playlists on the go. Its fairly priced too.

At least it's not an iPod.
