Interesting stuff I never thought about.
But unless I'm mistaken both articles are written by the same guy - with the Pro's list written before the price/release date announcement. It seems his own Con's list convinced him more... hmmm.

no mention of the screwy latch, the disaster that is the square button, or the dead pixel problems, all of which sony says won't be fixed because the PSP is the most beautiful thing ever.
and the PSP in the US is 250 freaking dollars. 70 more than in japan. WTF?
I buy game systems to play games. not to listen to music, not to watch movies, to play games. anything else is a waste of my time and money.
If I wanted to listen to music, I'd buy an MP3 player. if I wanted to watch movies, I'D GO HOME.

Actually, he does eventually mention the square button, it's under another heading, though.
I will wait and see how the US version holds up. I would like to give it a try, but I'm not expecting great things.
I think it's going to come down to game selection form me. Luckily I'm severly anti-portable biased so I doubt anything could convince me to buy this. The music aspect would be nice but I don't trust anything made by Sony's videogame department to be durable enough for me to run with. Which is what I would want the music for other than sleeping in class.
So in the end it looks like I'll just buy an MP3 player and save 150 bucks.
Edit: Man, that first article almost changed my mind and made me want one. Good thing I read that second article to crush that desire.
Seriously though, if those screenshots are accurate, that is one awesome looking screen.

Ditto. I imagine a Zone of the Enders or Final Fantasy game on there and I actually stop and think about how NEAT that'd be.
Then, yeah, I remember I'd be paying $600+ for **** that won't work and I don't need. Hmm.
Still, it'd be cool if it was suddenly this wonderful thing that worked and was awesome for the U.S. release! ...Yeah...!

I think music playing is a good feature for a portable thing, but I never get portables anyway. I also think that DVD playing is an amazing feature for consoles. If the PS3 doesn't have it, that would be retarculous. My PS2 is my DVD player right now. It helps cos I have like 5 consoles hooked into my TV and it helps that I don't have to add a DVD player on top of that.

I'm strongly considering getting one because several of the launch titles seem like pure sex.
That and I would actually use the music player, so I DERNO!

Ridiculous + Retarded
I think the guy in the article hits it on the head when he talks about how all the launch games are ports. I still don't see how this is better than saving five hundred dollars and just buying an MP3 player. OH WAIT, I forgot about movies on a five inch screen.

I think it looks pretty cool. If I went on a long vacation, or a trip, or something, I'd want this wayyyy over a DS. I can listen to mp3's if I get bored of games for a bit, and put some random tv shows onto it if I wanted something to watch.
But oh no-- it doesn't have two analog sticks!? ONLY ONE!? Wait, how many does the DS have? And the clumsy stylus thing doesn't count. Also, the default headphones are bad.. oh well, I have my own good ones. The only actual complaints I agree with are the square button and broken screens. But in the past, I've never had an issue with sony products. This could be the exception, but I say reserve a little judgement. The guy criticises it for not having a killer app. Oh man, I think all consoles should have a killer app months before they are even released in the states.
Oh well, I'm the minority then.

The minority with $300 to spend on the Swiss Army knife of videogaming.

a) its not gonna be $300.
b) (almost) nobody here should be playing the poor card. you guys can go "wow, ______ new game is out? im buying it right now!" or "hey the new ______ anime came out, and its only $95 an episode! im gonna buy them all!"
c) swiss army knives are useful. i'd rather pay $10 for a swiss army knife than $8 for just a steak knife (DS?) or $20 for a sharp twig (N-gage). as of now i have no portable system, no mp3 player or portable movie player, or anything portable. and not to mention, i walk almost everywhere i go. i'd like to have a good mp3 player to listen to. it would rock.
im not saying it's the greatest thing ever, but if i were to get a portable right now, it would have to be the psp. ds doesnt appeal to me.. and n-gage is just n-gage.
i'm poor as ****. i say "wow, new game out! now to being the wait for used/price drop, and the secret hatred of everyone who already has it."
i like things than can play games. and if it can play games well, then it's an okay system by me. the only thing that will be keeping me away at launch is the price. and it will probably be keeping me away for a long time, which is too bad.

No, but $249.99 plus tax is close enough (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/520683.asp) and lets not forget $149.99 plus tax (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/255567.asp) for a memory card.
Or you could pay $549.95 (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/520683.asp) for the totally awesome starter bundle.

Yes, these things are eventually coming, but we don’t have a solid time-frame for them. Didn't they say that around the PS2's launch and some time after, when wondering about the Network Adaptor and HDD?
EDIT: Sony admits PSP problem, offers free fix (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/02/22/news_6118930.html)
Well that's one problem down. I wonder if they've fixed the dead pixels and flying disc problems yet.
