    Magic...

Do you plan on making a setting with Low Magic (very little to no magic at all), or High Magic (lots of magical creatures, spells, and items)?

For one project, incredibly high magic because your entire party is mages (0mp cost, attacking is just for using special weapons like poison daggers and such). For another game, little to none magic simply because it doesn't fit a medieval, post-apocalyptic setting.

I plan on making both types one for each element.
There is one thing that pretty much disturbes me in an SRPG....

        Maronakins.

Well, I'm using it a lot.

Considering how it's as essential as breathing in my game.

            What about NPCs or monsters?

I'm not sure myself. With RPGM3, I'll probably wind up doing a bunch of magic. I do have a few games where the magic is rare and monsters mostly use abilities that make sense (bees using poison, dragons with their dragon breath, etc.).

              Re: Magic...

The line between magic and not-magic can be somewhat vague though. Take Tidus, he had Haste/Hastega/Slow/Slowga and they were 'White Magic', but he was given them because they fit his stats, abilities, and character. With my set-up for battle everyone'll have both Skills (str) and Magic (int), but many are bound to be like Tidus's 'magic'.

Anyways, I don't really care either way. I'd say what's more important is whether the abilities are useful, the game allows the player to do better based on strategy, and the characters (and/or classes) are well-balanced. I think most people are willing to look past realism for better gameplay mechanics.
