It comes out today, and due to the disappointment that was Xenosaga Episode I, I won't be buying it. I was just surprised that no one had started a topic about it yet. So, if you got it, does it suck as much as the first one?

I was ready to forgive and forget all the bad things about Episode I. Until I saw that the game focused on Jr. and had no larger relevance to the main arc of the story. Then I saw red.
My bf got it and I haven't even finished watching the DVD of the first game. I probably won't be playing this one for a while, if at all.
I'll just remember Xenogears and smile.

20 minutes into it and I can already tell it's going nowhere.
I'll play through it, but I know it's going to suck as much as episode 1. Maybe they'd be better off just ending this series with the third game before it falls apart from lack of sales.

Or maybe, like, DELIVER ON WHAT THEY PROMISE. Honestly, making an entire game focusing on Jr. was a horrible, horrible idea and I want to know why anyone would think it's good.
OK, so we'll just keep falling back on Xenogears for Xeno-goodness. Got it.

I'm probably the only one, but I felt more satisfied watching the recap DVD of Ep.I, than actually playing it.:p
Oh yeah, and Ep.II is the worst piece of gaming I ever seen. I think I should go to ebay and buy Xenogears for $8.

The recap only comes when you pre-order it, I believe.
I will get it when it goes way down in price. Otherwise...I think I will pass on it now.
Edit - Having no stores, no armor, no weapons...what is the deal!? What is the point of going anywhere, when it doesn't even matter...

I still don't see why everyone thinks Xenosaga sucked. Most of you that are saying this, were whining and crying for a sequel and you finally have one, deal with it.
Xenosaga is the best game I ever played, hands down, and I will get episode 2 when I can.
Mora, don't even try it, on AIM with me you were going gaga over Xenosaga telling me how great it is. Same with you Kire.
Anyway, I respect it if someone doesn't like Xenosaga for a viable reason, but it appears that its a "fad" with the "in-crowd" here to hate it for no reason, that's sad.

Xenosaga had stiff acting and direction, but I was willing to forgive it in a heartbeat until I found out that the story wasn't even advancing in this one. I mean, what the hell? I trusted that they knew what they were doing, but I was mistaken. If Takahashi wants to dick around with Jr. instead of telling the story he's damn lucky he got to remake, he's a fool.

If the second game focuses on Jr. that's clearly a bad idea. however, I don't see the first game as stiff, It has so many references to Xenogears but with even better characters, who could ask for more?
The only thing that makes this hard is that I am playing FFX and Xenosaga at the same time. I know it's sad that I JUST NOW got to get FFX but still.

I don't think that addresses the stiffness, but I have to disagree with the better characters thing. How much do we know about chaos? Shion? Anyone? I like Ziggy and MOMO's relationship to her, but Shion is a bit of a cipher, Jr. is a gunslinging bishounen stereotype, Allen is a doof times ten, and everyone else is so mysterious that they don't have personalities. I think the Xenogears cast was many times more likable than these guys.
And FFX's writing and direction is pretty horrible, too. I mean, wait until you get to the laughing scene.
OH! And I hate those stupid pauses inbetween people's dialogue in both games. It sounds so unnatural.

Xenosaga would have been better off just being a CG movie, since the actual gameplay made my mind... EXPLODE!
40 MINUTES OF FMV... proceed to run across the room... MORE MOVIE!
Repeat.
The character designs are ugly, the futuristic designs aren't anything near interesting, or original. C'mon, a CYBORG,a TERMINATOR ESQUE BIG BOOBED WOMAN, and some girlish looking guy with SUPER ****ING POWERS!
The only remotely interesting character relationship was with the Cyborg and that little girl thing. And even that, was bland.
I play for many, many hours, and basically all I was doing was running around just to run into more... GNOSIS!!! OMG!
Stupid, bland, no direction. The uselessness of the Mech's only dug its grave deeper.
And a sequel... based on the most UNINTERESTING character in the entire game. Whoa!
Yeah, talk about a fun time.

I think pretty much all the characters were equally uninteresting. Except for Ziggy but I can't really say that a full game about him would be worth it.
I think that the biggest fault that Xenosaga has made is that it doesn't follow the Xenogears timeline. And yadda yadda yadda they should have made it an anime.

I mean, I thought it was gonna be 1 game per arc on the overall story. But it looks like they're spending three of their five games on the Shion part of it. I mean, what? What about Abel? Or the Fei and Elly in Emeralda's time? I mean, did they want a game about Jr. that badly?
That's the thing, I don't think they're doing the Xenogears route anymore.

I think they are, since they said that the Shion storyline is ending with the third one. As if they'll get a chance to make it.

I never liked Shion. So it's mutual.
I did like KOS-MOS and Ziggy and Chaos and MOMO and Jr. (but certainly not enough to warrant a game surrounding him).
I really would've liked the Shion gang to end in Episode I because I don't want to play Episode II and feel like DEJA VU.
I wouldn't have minded a wholy seperate story involving the stone things and the force thing and the bad guy Dues from Xenogears and just have it set in the universe of Xenosaga and have all the games feature the cast of Shion, Ziggy, Jr, Chaos, Momo, KOS-MOS, and Jin. I could really go for that.
I'll have to play this one to truely warrant an opinion. I don't even mind the gameplay and cutscenes of the first game. I just want to be able to sit down and play the entire story at once.
Mora, do you know what they're planning after game three?

Yeah, the whole chain of crap should've ended with Ep.I. At least then, Xenosaga could be remembered as a bad game, rather than a series of bad games totalling 100s of dollars to buy, with each limited edition recap DVD making the previous game a waste of money for both the developer and consumer.

So...who's with me in learning the entire Xenosaga story for $50 in 7 years?:D

5 hours in and still nothing has happened.
To make things worse it seems the combat is nothing more than rock-paper-scissors type guessing at weak points with the enemies, it's really strangely random and I'm finding I can barely stay alive because of it.

You can only use 2 mechs at once... and with that being said only one of them can have two pilots at a time, meaning the other one is stuck without any skills and can only attack. DESPITE having 4 other characters in reserve you go into combat like this.
What the hell were they thinking when they made this game.

I actually enjoyed Xenosaga I, it's characters and story line. I think that had more to do with the hidden story that you only get bits and pieces of here and there. There is a lot going on in the series that is only hinted at and it is this that really kept me playing non-stop when the game first came out.
Jr. is a very interesting character and I'm surprised that no one has noticed his secret even though it is referenced several times. I just got Xenosaga II and look forward to seeing how his background is revealed in the story arc. I heard that only the first disk is about Jr. The second disk covers the other characters and starts to move the story along again.
I am disappointed that they needed two disks to store a 30 hour game. With shorter cut-scenes you would think the game would be much longer. Anyway, I'll reserve judgement until I actually play it.
I also got the DVD movie and watched it. It was very good at recaping the story and reminding me of all the secret stuff that is going on in the background. I look forward to the continued success of this series.

The Rubedo/Albedo story was the only one worth carrying over from Xenosaga I. The rest of the characters suck.

I think I'm just going to read about the story rather than actually play the games.
I don't think the story is actualy all that amazing. It is just told in a mysterious way so your always wanting to see what happens next, or find out what is happening at all.
But it's not like it's Shakespere or anything.
Well Shakespere's stories aren't all that amazing either. It's just the way that they are told that matters.
