    The scum also rises

    This is just pure evil.

I work for a non-profit org. I was recently put on a team that helps people who were displaced/affected by the hurricane. After hearing about the conditions in which they live, the things they've endured, and the complete lack of assistance they are receiving, this news really ****es me off. Bush and his business friends want to profit from this mess, and that's sick.

This is the worst administration ever. When will our long national nightmare end?

When we are enslaved by the army of John Mora Clones!
They'll make us build giant statues of them day and night.

    Sounds like fun.

well there seems to be two ways a thing like this could be viewed. i don't have enough information to go either way. at the moment it seems as equally likely to be something normal as it is something evil.

I hope I get the honor of chiseling his crotch.

Anyhoo, this is truly disgusting. Perhaps if Bush initially realized there was a profit to be made, there would have been a faster response.
Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

          Re: The scum also rises

Considering that the tax payers are paying for it to begin with, what right does a corporation have to do anything but break even when it is providing a service to the government that not all the taxpayers approve of?

I'd be all for Halliburton helping to rebuild, or any company, as long as they are only allowed to break even from it and not make one damn dime in profit. If they're so damn generous, then they should have absolutely no problem helping the effort, getting just enough compensation to pay their workers and for the materials needed, without taking in any profits or losses.

The fact that this government pays these prostitutes profit margins with our tax dollars is the root cause of many things wrong within this country, including but not limited to that $200 billion a year spent on welfare handouts to big business. Not only is this not constitutional, but it is wholly unfair to all of those Americans that work hard only to have large chunks of their incomes siphoned from them, so that a few rich white male Christian middle aged business executives can pocket money by the mere fact that they own part of a company. That's not a hard worker; that's a ****ing leech. Dick Cheney is just another ****ing leech, receiving all sorts of deferred compensation and bonuses as the value of this company and his ownership in it keeps increasing.

What angers me is why this government waited so long to help these people. FOUR DAYS the federal government waited to provide relief. FOUR DAYS. Some are blaming the mayor, local government, state Senators, and state governor exclusively while outright denying the Federal Government's negligence, but to do so is nothing short of folly. Both the Mayor of New Orleans, LA Senators, and the Louisiana Governor ALL requested aid from the federal government before the storm even hit or the first day after(Governor's request here, dated 8/28: http://gov.louisiana.gov/Disaster%20...%20Request.pdf). They were initially given virtually nothing. NOTHING. Even after video footage was popping up about the misery in places like the Superdome. Even during the 'looting', where most participants were in a frenzy to obtain food, water, and medicine. In fact, you can look at the areas that our Federal government was prepared to adress here: http://www.bobharris.com/content/view/637/1/. Note that New Orleans isn't listed there, directly where the hurricane was predicted to hit and those coastal counties where most of the damage would inevitably fall no matter where the hurricane landed. That's just plain incompetence.

Just after the storm hit, Herr Bushkin was out golfing, and playing guitar, while his ***** condoleeza was out in New York watching broadway muscials and shopping for expensive luxury shoes, paid for courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer. Herr Bushkin was even celebrating John McCain's birthday and eating cake, as those people stuck in New Orleans were dying from dehydration. Seems it's obvious where the priorities of our leaders rest, and it is not with aiding the people that elected(supposedly) them.

Meanwhile, while people are in desperate need of supplies, the government's miserly amount of aid they did send is being used to drop sandbags to slow the flooding of a few wealthier areas, and to detain/shoot looters for stealing property. Looks like our government valued property and 'rule of law' over using every last bit of resources available to get these people trapped some food, water, and medicine and getting them the **** out of there.

The situation was so dire the Mayor and governor were being offered aid from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, and others. The Homeland Security Department denies Canada's aid and manpower access as these people continue to suffer. Looks like big government saving face is more important than saving its people, eh?

Fast forward a few days. Bush finally musters up enough courage to visit, via chopper, but never touches down in the city except at a makeshift military base swarming with soldiers. He stages a photo op of a levee being repaired, when it really wasn't, and with the presenes of himself and a few family members in the city, aid is denied to some people in order to keep them away from the president and his family. The people of New Orleans would tear him a new asshole if they had the chance. wish they would have shot his ****ing chopper down, honestly. The waters receed just enough for people to get out of the city, and the national gaurd finally shows up now that Uncle Scam is now deploying them long overdue. There aren't enough supplies to go around, and the people, sick, dehydrated, and hungry, want to leave. Nearby towns full of upper middle class white racists decide they don't want a bunch of poor black people in their pretty suburbs, so the police and national gaurd are used to keep those people locked in the city. With inadequate supplies. This has people upset, so much so that they shoot at helicopters with the guns they managed to grab, from which the cowardly government runs and hides and denies even more aid, fearing a few people with guns. The superdome, having had military all around it, refused to let those people crammed in there leave, turning them back by gunpoint if they tried. Meanwhile, inside, there were no toilets, no running water, inadequate food supplies, and bodies in the tens(or even hundreds) were being piled up in corners inside the superdome. That stench must have been outright unbearable, but our government was keeping those people trapped there. It would be even a few more days before they would be evacuated.

After five days total, many of these people are about to keel over dead from dehydration. They are hungry, haven't had a shower in four or five days after being exposed to feces, urine, blood, and dead bodies galore the whole time, and just then buses are arriving, but not enough to immediately get everyone out.

After this ordeal is over, the media tries to cover events as they unfold while the city is draining. The government then decides to kick them out, without explanation, ordering them to leave. The body count is estimated by mainstream sources such as CNN at 10,000, independent sources even higher, yet without the media there any longer, for some strange reason the count doesn't change much from its artificially low figures. A court in Texas rules that the government keeping the media out is illegal, yet the government continues to keep them out of the city for another day, before finally yielding.

Looks like our Federal government got too big on us. It gets nothing done, and then tries to cover its incompetence. People suffer as a result, and they go unheard. Then when relief does arrive, it is not enough, and those in need of relief are herded around like animals while they are dropping dead.

Lovely little picture. Don't believe it?

If you aren't angry at just how STUPID and INCOMPETENT this government is, and such a waste of tax dollars it is, you are utterly hopeless.

I saw an official of The Government (I did not catch his name, but it was on CNN so may be repeated) comment on something like this.

He said "Companies have to make a profit."

                AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

(It is very hard to close with "Peace" after that)

                MOO!

In the case they break even instead of profit, provide a service to society as opposed to exploiting its participants.

If Halliburton is so generous, I again challenge Dick Cheney to request they not take any profits, but break even, using many independent accountants to perform audits. I wonder how willing Halliburton would be to help ease this tragic situation then...

One way or another, they'd show their true colors and where their priorities rest. If the priority is profits instead of the intended purpose of helping to rebuild the city itself, then that company has no business rebuilding the city as it will be more likely to put its own interests before all else.
