So, what are all those nifty programs and things that I need to help keep my computer safe, clean and healthy? Virus checkers and whatnot...

And WHY is my scrollbar so laggy?!

Free virus scanner. Reliable provided you scan your computer about once a week. It has a scheduler.

Spybot. Nifty, even tells you when a program is making changes to your registry.

It would also be a good idea to set up a firewall. Try a Windows firewall for now. And to minimize malware while using the Internet, use Firefox. Or you could stick with IE and ensure your security updates are up-to-date.
