    RPG Maker 3 Q&A

I'm curious to know just how limiting the battle system actually is, as well as if the reported sluggishness (of the DBS) is easy to work around, or able to be worked around at all.
The battle system is a bit slower than what we're used to in modern RPGs. it's not too bad though. it's pretty much the speed of RPGM1's system, with ATB implemented. It's not so slow that it's going to become annoying though. Load time during battle isnt too bad either.

How rapidly can characters spin around?
I can't believe I tested this. you can spin at a pretty decent speed, although I am not about to count how many revolutions per minute. it takes about 3 seconds to do a complete 360 degree turn.

can you see character portraits for your party members when you open the status menu/screen?
    No.

Just so long as RPG 3 characters have not succumbed to the "continuous walking" plague of RPG 2...
Nope, they can stand still without prancing around in place.

assuming that the camera is pretty customizable, will you be able to lock it and use your own views for when the character is moving around?
while walking, you can use the R3 stick to rotate the camera around your character. the camera follows the character no matter what. I have not seen any way to lock it in place, doesnt mean there isnt one, I just havent found it yet if there is.

is rpg maker 3 as easy to use as was claimed?
    Oh god yes.

does it feel more limited then rpg maker 1 or are there more optons?does it feel more limited then rpg maker 1 or are there more optons?
There are way more options (the manual contains a complete event list which I will scan later), but certain aspects DO feel more limiting than RPGM1. However, I can easily say this is my favorite of the console RPG Makers, even after just two hours.

Can you alter party size from the basic 4, to a different number...5, 6, 7, 10?!
    no. locked at 4.

Can characters have pets? Permaneantly summoned creatures which aid them, but do not take up a party slot?
No. you can however have a dog (or any of the animal models) in your party, and it WILL show up in battle.

How does the money system work? Just gold, or can you make up your own system?
    gold. cannot be renamed.

I'm jumping around in the questions, answering things as I learn the answers. keep checking this topic.

    Re: RPG Maker 3 Q&A

Since I have posted the event command list, I will not be answering questions about what people can/cannot do with events.

I didn't notice a cloaked figure character graphic.. Is there one with a different name?
Pretty sure there is (I took a whole day to find out that the clown was townsman 4). look in the pavilion preview screenshots. I nicknamed such a character model the "balloon baron" in there.

How much can you do with the keyboard on RPG Maker 3?
keyboard support is much better now. if you hold something, it will repeat at about the same speed as a normal keyboard, including "delete" and "backspace". so no more repeatedly tapping those keys like in RPGM2. Also, for some reason, if you use the "enter" key thats on the number pad, it actually shows the symbol from it. I'm using this at the end of speech windows to show that there's another block of text after that, and leaving it out when there isnt.

Can you have NPC's in Map or dungeon areas?
NPCs cannot be placed in the field areas, but they can go anywhere else.

Are there any black people in RPGM3?
Every character model has at least one black version, and some also have asian versions.

Can your character animation change based on the type of weapon you have. I have seen the screen shots with the guy with a sword in his hand durning a fight. But if you gave him an axe does he still look like hes using a sword? or can you change it to an axe?
The character models carry whatever weapon they're equipped with.

How customizable is the combat system? Can we rename everything, like in RPGM2? Is it possible to script events to occur mid-battle?
Battle system is set in stone. no mods can be done to it, and you cannot have scripts run during battle.

Is it really possible to use all of the character graphics as monster graphics? If so, do they need to be registered as monsters, effectively taking up some of the monster limit?
Yes for part 1, no for part 2.

How customizable are the characters? Is it really just a matter of picking a model and selecting from a limited group of color variations, or is there more to it?
As said for the past, oh... 4 months, you just pick a character model and one of four color schemes.

is the instruction booklet in color?
    Yes.

Can we use PCs as enemies and/or Vice-versa? Unlikely, but I see no harm in asking.
can use any character as an enemy. cannot use monsters as characters.

Is it possible to rename character classes and assign magic spells and skills to certain characters?
    Yes.

Do any houses have a destroyed version? Like if I wanted to have a house catch on fire and burn down. I know you'll have a list, but just in case there are any burnt houses in that list, I'd like to know if there are any similarities to any not-burnt houses.
There are "ruins" that can be placed in towns, but there is no way to set anything in a town on fire, and there is no way to change/add things to a town other than making copies of that town with the differences you want.

How big exactly is the world map? In a lot of the screenshots/movies I've seen, they showed me some vast plains with only one or two instances where there was a town to go to. I'd hate to find out that you'd have some serious traveling to do if you don't have a whole bunch of towns/dungeons on your map.
its as big as you want. if you want it to be small, draw it small. you can also have up to 20 linked together.

I was still wondering if it was possible to make it two player like in FF V or FF VI.
there's only support for one controller. although you could pass the controller back and forth.
