    Adventures of Bob

For those of you who don't know Adventures of Bob was supposed to be the game that I made with RPGM2 until I discovered that RPGM2 was hard.
Words inside parenthesis denote placeholder names for characters and things.

The basic premise is that Sir Robert is the legendary hero of your typical rpg world. Years ago Sir Robert and his party of heroes fought and defeated the (Ultimate Evil). Sir Robert was the only person to come back alive because it was his destiny that he would defeat the Ultimate Evil. His party of Non-Chosen ones were easily defeated by the Ultimate Evil, including the girl Sir Robert was in love with (Princess Girlfriend), his best friend (Best Friend Sidekick) and the fourth person of their group (Other Guy).

Sir Robert returns a victorious but broken man and everyone cheers. Even now years later he still suffers from hero worship. There is Hero Day, the thousands of children named Sir Robert(most of them boys), and a bunch of other stuff that the people do to celebrate Sir Robert, but only reminds him of what his quest cost him.

The Adventures of Bob tells the story of one such namesake child, Bob.

Bob is a young boy who is about to turn 13. The thirteenth birthday is a special one because 13 is the traditional age of venturing (13 is when Sir Robert first started adventuring with Best Friend Sidekick). Bob lives in (Side-Quest Village) and his parents run the village inn. Side-Quest Village is a tourist stop now for travelers tracing the path of Sir Robert’s journey. Back in the day Sir Robert stopped at the Inn to rest for the night and rescued a young girl from the nearby cave of harpies. Bob works in the Sir Robert Souvenir Shop and is naturally a huge fan of Sir Robert. One day, an aspiring playwright, (New Best Friend) visits Side-Quest Village. He has already reached the age of venturing and is doing a pilgrimage following Sir Robert’s journey so that he can write a play about Sir Robert (His play will also be called The Adventures of Bob). New Best Friend wants Bob to be his guide and show him the cave of harpies. Bob thinks that this would be the perfect start to his venturing(even though he's a few days away from turning 13). When Bob and New Best Friend get to the cave New Best Friend is estatic and starts gushing about being in the actual place where Sir Robert defeated the Harpy Queen. Bob and New Best Friend are startled by a noise behind them and Bob is mad when it turns out that Bob's little sister has followed them to the cave. Just as Bob is about to send her back home a Harpy flies out of the cave and attacks Bob and New Best Friend. After the battle two more harpies fly out of the cave. One of the harpies grabs Bob's sister and carries her off while the other harpy attacks again. After the second battle Bob and New Best Friend chase after Bob's sister and they discover that not all the harpies were killed by Sir Robert and they have inhabited another cave . Bob and New Best Friend defeat the new Harpy Queen and save Bob's sister. Back at the village after everything calms down Bob thanks New Best Friend and offers to let him stay with his family for a few days. New Best Friend tells Bob that he would like to stay but he needs to leave as soon as possible. Hero Day is only a few days away and (Capital City) is going to have a huge celebration where Sir Robert is supposed to attend. Bob fresh from his first taste of venturing agrees that going with New Best Friend would be a good way to go venturing. So Bob and New Best Friend head off to Capital City with the hopes of meeting Sir Robert.

I remember you telling me about this eponymous quest back in the RPGM2 days.

I think the idea is campy in a good way. Your narrative paragraph there has a DQ/BoF-like mundanity that could be compelling if the game plays through with fine-tuned doses of humor.

Keep all the placeholder names, they're fun.

Will there happen to be a Bobbitizing of any sort? Harpies can be quite mean after all...

I just now realized that Bob is short for Robert! IRC, you are much more clever than I.

It would be cute and stupid (that's what you're going for, right!) if you could buy/find/fabricate/sell/trade/appraise/collect various Robert merchandise. Like autographed Sir Robert statuettes, Sir Robert Brand ale beverage, the shammy Sir Robert used to smother the Salacious Spider Queen to death, etc.

I've thought of keeping the place holder names. It just depends on how serious I want to take this. The problem is that the (big plot twist that blows your mind) that I have planned doesn't really fit with the cutesy motif. Of course doing it cutesy does leave lots of options for a Dog ending.
