Reality Frontier [manual]: 90% custom rpgmxp game

This is the manual to a game I've been working on and off for almost 3 years. I originally started it as a joke game in BASIC, moved on to rpg maker 2, and then it found it's home on rpgmxp october last year when I recieved it in the mail and booted up advocate's LEAP-intact patched version. Unfortunately for me, I canned it due to lack of resources and now a year later, with the impending english version, I decided to revive it to show my loving support to Enterbrain and this small (yet very dedicated) community (and any other communities that want to play it). Think of it as a game that proves you can go far and beyond with rpgmxp and the only limitation is your imagination. Here's the manual which is more or less an advertisement topic. Thanks to Valk to inspiring me to do this (as well as everyone else in the manual topic).

Quick Note: All graphics are hand drawn very sloppily; this is because the game is based on my dreams and the style of each level reflects that (either mellow for dreams, or chaotic and sketchy for nightmares). The 10% that isn't custom are a few scripts, sound effects, and music. This manual is also nowhere complete.

    Reality Frontier
    (c)E3 Seaman Justen Brown 2005

"In Hypnogogia, the land were dreams are born...
Nightmares sneak in, our realities torn...
A mesh of happiness, nobility, and despair...
We drift in our thoughts, our bodies impaired.
In Hypnogogia, the land were dreams are made...
The Great Mother smiles and begs you to stay.

    Start-up Information

Open up the Reality Frontier folder and double-click on the rgssplayer to boot up the game and play. Because the game will remain open source, you may double click on the Game.exe to open the game up in the rpg maker xp editor to view how different events were made.

After starting the game up, you'll be presented with the opening splash screens as well as the title screen. Press the confirm button on "Sleep" to begin a new game, press confirm on "Enter Dream" to load a saved game, or press confirm on "Awaken" to quit the game.

    Controls
-Pressing left or right moves Potpourri left or right.
-Hold down the space key to dash.
-Pressing shift allows you to jump. Press jump while dashing to jump extra far.
-The 'z' key is the activation key and allows you to interact with your environment.
-The 'x' key is the cancel key and exits out of menus or cancels choices.

    Story
This is a simple story synopsis as viewed in the eyes of the main character

"My name is Potpourri, and I am a gifted Pon. A Pon is a creature of Hypnogogia, the dream world, made manifest by a dreamer's personality imprinted onto our world. Unlike the other Pon's, I have free will, and my natural curiousity has gotten the better of me. As you read this, I am already dead... yet, the great mother watches and thoughtfully smiles.

I discovered something about our world, something terrible and Artemidorus killed me for it. In exchange for a new life granted by the great mother, I will have to travel the frontier between reality and dream and challenge the nightmares within. I want my revenge... I want my memories... and I will subject myself to any dream, or nightmare, to get what I want. "

    Important Characters
Here are but a handful of the important characters you'll meet in Pourri's travels. There are many more persona's to discover.

    The Hero: Potpourri the Pon

-Potpourri (often called Pourri) is a Pon; an imprint of a dreamer's personality in the dream world. Although he may look cute, he actually has a really sour and cynical attitude. No one exactly knows what function his antenna is used for. He can extract and retract his short arms to manipulate objects.

Pourri was involved in an inner conspiracy and was hunted and killed by a mysterious force while encountering Artemidorus. In exchange for a new life, the great mother took his memory. Pourri now travels the Reality Frontier, the line between reality and dream, to recover his lost memory fragments and exact revenge on the force that killed him.

The exact gender of Potpourri is up for debate but he is referred to as a male as a generality.

    The Omnipotent: Artemidorus the Insomniac

-Artemidorus is the immortal judge, jury, and executioner in Hypnogogia. He silenty floats exactly 7 inches above the ground and carries out his law on criminals. He cannot be swayed, bribed, or negotiated with and while he may seem cruel, his intentions are purely lawful to the n'th degree. Although he is lawful, there is question about his true alignment as anyone in his presence finds the temperature to drop suddenly and the area to darken.

Artemidorus confronts Potpourri at the beginning of the game and witnesses his death by a mysterious force. He appears to have some connection with a "conspiracy" that is happening behind the scenes of the dream world and wishes to silence Pourri for it.

No one knows what's under Artemidorus' cloak but his real presence is revealed to those that die by his hands (needless to say, they aren't able to write about it).

    The Great Mother: ???

-The great mother is a faceless, god-like entity with a gold dress and shines a white light. Few have ever seen her in person and none have seen her true form. She appears before a select few individuals to give them spiritual guidance or provide them with gifts. Although none know her whereabouts or motives, it is clear that she is has good intentions and rules (possibly created?) Hypnogogia.

She revives Potpourri at the beginning of the game in exchange for his memory. There seems to be a connection between the "conspiracy" involving Artemidorus, Pourri, and the great mother herself.

    Object of the Game
The object of the game is simple; get from Point A to Point B. Each level is filled with dangerous traps, creatures, and environmental puzzles. You have infinite lives and can save at anytime so take your time as you explore the worlds and solve the puzzles. Because the puzzles themselves are based on the environment, you'll have to use your critical thinking skills to solve many of them. Enemies can either be avoided or lured into a trap (until you find some way to defend yourself). Traps themselves must simply be avoided.

    The Frontier Worlds
Here is a small list (followed by a screenshot) of the worlds you will encounter. This list is nowhere final and you will experience many more adventures and challenges beyond this..

    Sea of Stars

Home to the stars of the Frontier, Pourri watches them and encounters Artemidorus from a cliff edge before being destroyed by a mysterious force. The Sea of Stars is also home to the three moon brothers: Luminus, Seleno, and Cynthion.

    Soilant Green

Soilant Green is enlarged backyard-esque world created by a child with dissociative syndrome. On one side is the cutesy, innocent creation of a 4 year old girl while the other half is a cannibalistic bastardization made out of, you guessed it, PEOPLE. Soilant Green has relatively un-aggressive enemies and several friendly creatures. Even the cannibal side is fairly un-imposing (if not downright disturbing). Streganona, a witch with two personalities (and two halfs of a body), makes her home but she often eats visitors who come to visit her candy house.

    Hurricane Blarney
This world is an Irish style stone castle caught in the middle of a class 5 hurricane. While no nightmares live here, the terrain is more challenging than any beast. Due to the perpetual storm, the walls often collapse and rebuild themselves around you so timing in this level is important.

    Johnny Got His Gun
A landmine has taken Johnny's arms and legs as well as being struck blind, dumb, deaf, and mute. Trapped in this hellish, dark, nightmare projected by Johnny's mind, you must guide Pourri through the seemingly endless battlefields of the twisted horrors of war. Avoid traps like landmines, artillery, and barbed wire as well as armless and legless monsters that roll on the ground and explode on impact.

    Stairway to Retroland
This twisted look at a 1950s black and white sub-division has been perverted by drugs and hallucinogens. Be wary; the creatures that infest this world are thieves and often steal important puzzle items until you manage to defeat them. Several other important creatures live here as well including the sticky fingered May Queen, the alluring (yet deadly) Piper, and word has it that the great mother herself has a sibling that took residence to the area.

Nice work! I'm working on my own manual for my RPG Maker 3 game, Sundered Chronicles. Right now I am doing character sketches of everyone you can have in your party.

That sounds pretty good, very original, it sounds like it would be fun to play.
