    Phantasy Star Universe

Characters: There will be over 10 different main characters that will travel with Ethan in the offline portion of the game.
Bosses: Sonic Team is promising over 20 bosses in PSU.
Music & Sound: The sound track will include some of the orchestrated music we're used to, but each of the three planets in the game will have their own style of music. There will also be over three hours of recorded voiceovers.
Offline/Online Stories: The online and offline stories will be completely different, but during the online play you will run into characters from the offline story, which will tie things together a bit. The offline portion is said to be 40 to 50 hours of gameplay.
Character Creation: Character creation will be far more advanced than in PSO, giving players the ability to tweak things such as eye spacing and jaw structure.
Mags: There will be some kind of mag-like feature in PSU, but its role will be different than what we're used to in PSO.
Party Size: While the final party size limit is still unknown, Sonic Team does want parties to be larger than in PSO, meaning we will possibly have more than 4 party members in PSU.
Platform Features: USB keyboards WILL be supported on the PS2, but voice chat is not yet confirmed. Sega is also trying to allow PC and PS2 players the ability to play alongside each other.

    PSO World

This is hopefully better than PSO, with a dash of the original in it. I'm still holding my breath on what SEGA claims. They'll keep the game up to date for several years. That seems like a big lie, though.

The best part is that you don't need the HDD.

No fast internet. No network adapter.

      This is pretty sad.

Without going through, here's a link to the GameInformer article...

90% of the game is playing it online...

At least PSO was. PSU's offline mode might be better. Argh.

It supposedly has a 40 hour story mode, with actual characters, with voice overs, cinematics, the works, its like getting 2 games in one.

SEGA better not screw this one up. PSO was great, but now you can't go to a American server without being hacked/corrupted/FSOD'd.

Ah, human stupidity at it's finest.

Yeah, it got so annoying, there were so many spammers. Poeple would go on just to be racist. And they would get away with it, and there was the dupers, which took the fun outta it. But now all characters will be kept on servers, bla bla bla, so its a step up.

Ahhhh PSU... Now you speaka my language! I am SO looking forward to this. It sure looks like ST's been taking notes from Cryptic in terms of character creation.

                    Re: Phantasy Star Universe

Does the online game play like an MMO or regular online multiplayer? And for anyone who played PSO on Xbox, was the voice chat an improvement over typing? I wonder why more online RPGs haven't at least tried voice chat. It seems like it should change the whole genre. But not get rid of text comm completely because voice wouldn't work in open chat in highly populated areas.

                      Re: Phantasy Star Universe

I use Teamspeak when I play City of Heroes and it makes a big difference. So voice chat would be nice, but I dont see it as a requirement.

I had PSO for my Gamecube but never got around to getting the broadband connector for it. So my experience of that game only goes as far as playing multiplayer with my friends. It was a cool game but I didnt like that the swords and other close range weapons weren't practical. And also I didn't like the sluggish controls, so I hope they improve on this in the new game.

I loved PSO on the dreamcast/GC. PK/BSOD and other horrors killed the fun on the DC, and cheaters with hacked items killed it for me in on the GC. I sure hope Sonic Team is more serious about security for this version. If so, I'll be there.

Cheating/hacking is a serious problem that's gotta be dealt with. Severely.

Yeah, and it still plagues PSOBB to this very day. All I gotta say is I hope they kick NProtect to the curb once PSU comes out.

Well, since they are now saving characters server-side, hacking shouldn't be that bad. Nor should you get BFSOD/FSOD at all. I'm more sold on the fact SEGA is actually gonna keep up with it. For seven years, no doubt. I think they should hold their promise, because we basically paid them to slack-off, and just quit.
