Hayao Miazaki

The greatest animated film director of all time. I just got through watching Spirited Away last night, it was awesome. Thats gotta be one of the most bizzare and amazing animations ever to see the light of day. Hayao Miazaki is the man. Although I don't always agree with his philosophical implications his animation blows me away. So far I've seen Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, and Spirited Away. I'm not sure which one is my favorite but they are all awesome.

I own Princess Mononoke, and spirited away. I love spirited away just a pinch more.

That's my top 3. Every other film he's done is fantastic of course but those three stand out for me.

really? i was kinda disappointed in howl's moving castle. and don't get me wrong, his movies in general are certainly worth watching, but he seems to have problems with endings... either weak or seemingly rushed resolution. but almost invariably worth watching just for the quality of the animation, and in some cases for more. he did an excellent job of world-building in spirited away, for example.

Its not exactly new. Its been out in Japan since like the late 80's. But disney translated a couple of his films and published em along with spirited away.

I think Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke are stiff and preachy. Nausicaa has the added benefit of having an annoying-as-**** Pollyanna for a protagonist. Totoro... it ain't Shakespeare. I've actually found myself liking Isao Takahata more consistently.

Yeah.. Howl's Moving Castle is far from old, Bigfoot.

I love when people hear a little rumour somewhere, do no research and then
state it as fact in a forum where several people likely have actual knowledge.

I guess I may be wrong, Im not a hardcore Miazaki fan or nothing, but thats what I thought it was.

I love anime. Don't konw much about directors though. My favorite animes would either be FLCL, Tenjou Tenge or Outlaw Star.
