I'll bet you anything right now, 95% of all FFXI players are grabbing fishing poles and bait.

The most recent update totally revamped the fishing system. When you get a bite, you have to reel the fish in without stressing your line by pressing over on the analogue stick. You're assured a catch if you can drain the life bar of your catch to 0.

That, and fishing is much faster with more skill-ups. AND it totally gets rid of bot fishers. :D :D :D

There were other updates, like sheilds being slightly more effective, new traits for level 75ers through the Merit system and one for the WHM, a few new areas and several other things.

But yeah, Woog said Buburimu Peninsula is pretty much empty now. Botters are in panic.

yea looks like the dreaded fishing bots have been dealt with!!
and the new system seems really cool, i haven’t tried it out but
reading the details makes it sound super fun. . . HIPPIES!! :lol :lol

also SE permanently banned 800 accounts across all the severs
for being campers/gil sellers. not sure how many were off our
server, but i have noticed about 10 or so campers that are gone :D

also WHM got a new job trait that works with Divine Seal, it basically
makes any status removing spell AoE to the PT - it is BAD ASS!!
-in a PT last nite we all got blinded and DEF down, the WHM used
Divine Seal and did Erase which hit the whole PT!!!! it was so cool.

I've been surfin' around looking up discussion forum topics about the new fishing system. So far, the botting community is pretty confident that they can bypass this new system. Just "more coding for them to code around".

Legit fishermen are complaining that it makes the practice too easy, and that the price of stacks have been going down steadily since everyone's been getting into it. So it's harder to make a profit off of it.

Others are really excited about it given the increased skill up rates and the current lack of bot fishers polluting the waterfront.


I think it'll even itself out in the end. Even if botters do return, they will have to get higher levels (and probably fish in dangerous areas) if they want to make a profit off of it. Moat carp stacks have gone down from 7k to 3k since the update's been in place.

And besides, it should be easier to tell if someone's botting, because you can see what they catch when they catch it.


Also, here's an interesting debate: Is buying (not selling) gil with real money illegal/legal and/or wrong?

Today, I finally hit level 29. I have the following gear equipped:

My character does insane magic damage. At 30 will come two Morion Earing's +1 and a Warlock's Shield, which will take a lot of farming for gil.

I really miss FFXI a LOT, but there's no way I wanna go through all that levelling a second time. Nuh uh.

I don't camp any NM's. Not only is it a waste of time, but your chances of getting a claim are crap because everyone else wants it too (not to mention those on PC who can have voke bots)

That is how Everquest became. You had to camp the spawns just to get anything, and you had to even wait in line to go after the spawn.

I remember I had to wait 3 days before I could kill a low level spawn, just because there were too many high level people camping it.

No, its not that bad. Voke botters are easy to overcome, and NMs are getting easier and easier to claim. I'm not sure if its just me getting better at it, luck, or something else.

Today was a very magical experience for me in the world of FFXI, the servers crashed this morning, so instead of letting Behemoth end up in JP time my linkshell decided to attempt to hold it for 9 f*cking hours. I showed up for about the last 3, but we had some people, like poor Mori there since 10 am... ; ; Anyway, at 7:30, 30 mins away from our goal, a GM call was made after we were being threatened to kill it for the past hour by a jp blm named fuzz.

...Anyway, it's against the rules and considered griefing, blahblah, everyone does it, the jps and us, but this time the GM actually did something!!

I have never known anyone who been to a virtual jail before.

The only crime I been involved with in an online game would be a name change. In Everquest, I had a paldian who was called "Templarknight" Unfortanlly, a gm told me I had to change it. So I kept giving him crazy names, like Jesus, Anti-christ, Pope, GM, ect. But eventually I went to Vonwert :)

Gus, basically its a 21-24 hour spawn time from when it dies, so if we had killed it as soon as we claimed it, potentially it could have spawned at 7 am (no NA people are going to be on then, making it so japanese will kill it quickly again thus push it back even earlier)... so you hold them as long as possible in order to move the spawn window so that it's in a reasonable time for people to be online.

Den, they are real people, alot of the other gms we've seen make tons of typos and just generally try to be smartasses. Basically this one just like typed out the manual and didn't listen to anything we said though, just repeated himself over and over about how it is grief tactics...

Man, that's so messed up.

I've heared stories on JP shells like New Company holding Behemoth for hours, and when they were told by GMs they can't do that and had to kill it, they switched to low lvl weak weapons like warp cudgels to kill it slowly.

I'm still waiting for my "turn" to go to jail when i accidentally MPK gil sellers in the future. XD

nah, from the looks of it, they were doing practically no damage (if any), but on the flip side they were taking no dmg either.

Yes that's basically what we were doing Pinoy, we had a bunch of people fighting it with crappy weapons, had a paladin with a 1 damage staff, thief with a staff, 2 dark knight/white mages spam casting dia on it for enfeeble skillup, and I was using Hand to Hand and nuking with banish D:

From what I have seen GMs cannot take damage, they kill all monsters in one hit, yet they can get aggro for some weird reason. :lol

So I talked to Firiien last night (he plays WoW AND FFXI) and he was like "Ok I'm logging to play my WHM."

And I said "How the hell do you have the patience for that?"

He tells me they changed the exp grid so now it's only like 8000 exp to level at 50... and they've done this only a few weeks ago, which is ages after some of us quit cuz it was too time-consuming and sucky!

I still feel sad I didn't get full AF in FFXI, so I'm compensating by trying to obtain full armor for my druid in WoW. The druid set is called "Wildheart Raiment" (sounds cool, doesn't it??).

The thing about AF in WoW is that there are no set quests to obtain it. You just have to run certain dungeons over and over until it drops. >_>

It might sound horrible, but it's really not. Raids are kinda like Eco Warrior, but with levels 57 - 60. You grab ten or more people and rush in there and beat up the baddies. ^^ It is a thing of chance, but I don't mind. Someday I'll get it! Right now I have three out of eight pieces: Wildheart bracers, kilt, and boots.

I'm going to be trying for the shoulders next, because they look so freaking awesome. Soon as I get em, I'll post screens. ;)

Seven more weeks to go before I make my triumphet return!!! I'm dying to get back to my IC homies and get back to the games. Reading all these posts make me want to pick back up my warrior from FFXI for a quick spin. I have so many good memories of the game now, I think about it sometimes when I'm bored and sitting around polishing my boots. My only form of entertanment these days.

Also about the going to Iraq thing. I'm pretty safe from going right now. I'm on a special assignment to work with people preparing to go to boot camp or AIT so I won't even be doing the job I'm training for. My job is to pass on my knowledge, which is good because I soak up all military reading material, on to new recruits. I'm getting this assignment to reduce my chances of going while the army lets me go to college. After two years of college I have a no deployment option to finish out the last two years. I'm pretty safe but in two years I'll be an infantry officer and ready to start earning combat patches and medals so I'll probably request deployment then. But I'm safe for now, so no worries. Sorry I took the topic off subject a bit.
