    New SH Movie Article!

Possible spoilerifficness, if you don't want to know what shows up in this film!

Yeah, I considered posting this in the VG forum, buuut... any SH fan that's COOL posts in this forum anyway.

The article can be found here.

The article also links to another article with IGN, but truth be told that one is mostly about The Cave and then the special effects artist talks about Silent Hill for two whole questions.

STILL... this confirms that one of our favourites is showing up in the movie. JOY! <3

    ------------
IGNFF: How big of a challenge has Silent Hill been so far?

TATOPOULOS: Silent Hill was a completely different deal… The challenge of Silent Hill was actually resolved pretty quickly because the director told me, 'Patrick, I want those guys to look like they are made of plastic,' which is exactly the opposite of what we do usually. We try to make them look like they are not plastic. There's a style to the videogame which is quite amazing. They all look like dolls – you know, surreal… That's the quality that the director likes.

So with Silent Hill, the cool thing is we take this world and create new designs that you haven't seen before. I won't tell you too much, but there are things you don't know from the videogame – much crazier stuff even. But like the rapiers, all those characters, are so cool. What we had to make work…when you do a videogame and you put a sword in the hand of a guy, the sword is like 500 pounds, like big as the guy almost. The helmet goes almost from the ceiling to the floor… So, the challenge of Silent Hill was 'How do you make this work?' We had to rethink completely the technology we use today. All the things we have used before, we barely used on that movie. We used a different type of fabric, we used rubber to create that different [look]. Initially, there will be a mix of CGI and practical, but we did deal pretty much in practical… That was a fantastic shoot.

IGNFF: I was on the set during one of the nurse scenes.

TATOPOULOS: Oh, you saw that! Well, the nurses have the faces that don't move… It's going to be dark all the way, which is I think the way it has to be.

Yeah, Pyramid Head was confirmed a while back. Still cool to know nurses are in.

                *EXPLODES IN ANTICIPATION*

Seriously, this movie sounds better and better. I was disappointed in other VG movies before they even came out, like RE. I remember being upset when they kicked off George Romero. Yet, in this movie, they do everything right so far. The only thing not up to par is the idea of Pyramid Head being in the movie. Although I'd like to see him made real, he really has no place outside of SH2's story. (no matter how good CGI is, a movie ALWAYS make things look different than in a game or whatever else it is based on)

Shiningstone, your sig reminds me. Whatever happened to that Fatal Frame movie? Since those are the scariest games I have ever played.

The movie is still being made. A lot of people thought it wasn't, and rumors were going around that it was scrapped. But a recent interview with one of the crew members working on the movie said that negotiations with the company (Universal Pictures, I think) slowed down the progress.

Some other fans are worried, because the same guy talked about how they are planning all these changes from the game. I can't say I like to hear that either.

Isn't Spielbergo involved in the Fatal Frame movie?

Oh, and I'm a Fatal Frame virgin but I've been meaning to fix that. I can't find those games anywhere. Is there one that's better than the others?

I've beaten the first Fatal Frame, but only played a small amount of 2. This one place has 1 for rent, but I can't find 2 to buy anywhere.

They are good, actually. The only survival horror games out there that rivals Silent Hill. Except FF is all about ghosts, so you know what kind of scares it has. You walk into a room and see children running, eerie blank faces in walls and ceilings, etc. Its heartstopping when some ghosts attack you, like one is of a little kid that appears and disappears running all over the place. You can hear him saying stuff like "Lets play" as he whizzes all over the place. My favorite is an eyeless woman that keeps repeating "MY EYES" as she keeps coming after you. The camera angles add to it, like one time when you see her she is coming down the stairs and you can only see her feet before she is right on you.

Good stuff. Play it at night... its the best!

What I hate about fatal frame 2 is that they set up a new system to scare the **** outta ya. For when you have to take pictures of the ghosts to kill it, you havta let it get extremely close to you! Fatal Frame games are the only thing that scares me now. But thats why I love em.
