PS2: Disc Read Error

This site (http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars) shows a detailed step-by-step method of adjusting the lens to fix PS2 Disc Read Errors. Has anyone ever had this problem, and used this method to correct it? The warranty has expired, and the PS2 won't read anything. "Cannot read disc." Can anyone verify if this is the correct way to fix it? If not, what did you use?

If the warranty is expired, and it isn't working anyway, give it a shot.

Does anyone know how to fixes the XBox's DRE problems. I swear I've been trying to burn some music CDs onto it, I MIGHT get the first two tracks before it then wusses out and claims there might be an error on the disc WHICH IS FRIGGIN SCRATCH FREE!

I took apart my PS2 with with a little help from a similar guide and it works better now. Go fer it

Out of all my friends, my ps2 is the only one that hasnt broken yet. My one friend Tom sent his in 4 times already...

I opened it, it was a lot different than that guide. Just rubbed lens with cotton swab, it's all good. A few left over screws, and it rattles a tad... but it reads every type of disc.
