    WEEEEEEE. Computer = dead

My computer is dead. I was updating AVG, and then it had to restart. it froze up on the restart, just froze up on a screen that tells me to press F1 or F10. But those buttons won't make anything happen. if I turn it on or off, it still freezes on that screen that pops up the second it gets power. I dont get a chance to do anything on it.

If anyone has any advice that doesnt involve expensive repairs, I'm open to them. Luckily my dad's computer still works, as does my dreamcast internet, so I'll still be around, just not as much as before.

Times like this, I'm really glad the pavilion doesnt even require a staff for the site to run and accept submissions.

Damm... I know that feeling. I hope you can figure out a way to fix it.

Grah, back to the old dreamcast?

Good thing that Pavilion doesn't require much of anything!... Yeah?

Have you tried safe mode? I think you can hold F8 while it's booting up to get into it... That's all I know.

Sounds like your keyboard isn't plugged in right or the socket for it is damaged. Can you do anything with the kb? You get the same message if you start the PC with no kb in. You might have to get a new motherboard.

its not the keyboard. I've tried various USB keyboards (my normal keyboard isnt USB)and they don't work either. everything worked fine before that restart, so I think one of my boot files may have been corrupted or something.

Have you tried doing the safe mode thing?

I don't think Safe Mode is going to make any difference at this point.

Have you inspected the motherboard yet?

I agree with Programmer, sounds like something in there 'sploded.

I knew my brain told me to stop AVG updates for a reason.

If you can get to safe mode, try safe mode with command prompt. You can run a system restore from there. If holding F8 doesn't get you to safe mode you can try using a startup disk to get to the command prompt.

                        Lubricate the BIOS.
