    I'm trying to draw.

I got bored and did this today. I haven't drawn regularly for about 3 years. I think I might start again.

What do you guys think? I'm asking for suggestions non-related to proportions.

Also...it's really, really hard for me to do action poses. Does anyone have anything they've found (online or not) that can help me with that?

    thanks and a half

I think its pretty good, just do what you want, no matter what poeple say. I too like to draw, some really good, some that suck, but hey, thats what the trash it for.

Interesting, but it's hard to give much advice when it's just a face shot.

I guess reference real people, or yourself. Failing that, use the internet to find more reference. Learn/teach yourself anatomy if you can, that helps with action poses.

      Practice, practice, practice.

          Reminds me of Crumb.

If you're really serious about doing action scenes, you can buy posseable mannequins for males and females. Many art supply shops sell these to artists so they can see how different posses look from different angles. Action figures could be used for the same thing, although you would need a fully articulated one and the mannequines are much cheaper then those would be.

The newer art shop mannequins are better and more posable, but action figures are MUCH cheaper. I have three action figures I use for reference: spider-man red and blue and spider-man black costume (Walmart $4.99). Both of those have something like 32 points of articulation and are very useful. The other one I use is Vega from the newest SF 15th anniversary collection figures ($10.99). He's just as posable as the others, but larger and easier to handle. He also comes with interchangable hands, which helps a little.

I would avoid these types of mannequins:

They don't have correct proportions and they can't move very much at all.

EDIT- here's another version of the same spider man figure.
There are others around eBay as well.
Since it was so well made, they used the same mold and replaced the head and changed the color scheme. Any one of them will work. They don't stand up well, but you can just get some clay or sculpy and make a stand for one of the feet.

I have one of those wooden mannequins...

And yes, it sucks. Currently it's doing the Mime next to my Armored Core models.
                ...and that's why.

It looks like Jimmy Carter and Leonard Nemoy and a chimpanzee all had a lovechild somehow.
