This wasn't answered when I asked it on the main forum (I don't think). Did Enterbrain translate the 5 sample games as well? I know at least a couple of them sound real interesting, and I'd hate to find out I'll be stuck with the Japanese versions.
Dunno if you know this, but would one be able to port files from the Japanese RMXP onto the English one?

I dont think the sample games are going to be released in english, or it seems the website would mention it. plus, I dont think enterbrain would translate them, but rather the people who made those games.
I wonder if we would get in any trouble for posting the custom graphics that were in those samples... http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/RPG_XP/samplegame.html
a lot of them had really cool graphics, and I actually ended up using a few tilesets and character graphics from Promise of Permanent White (such a stupid name) in Legend of Pants. I remember when I saw that game's "cinema" screens, my jaw hit the floor, they're so beautifully done.
I would think projects from the japanese version would work on the english XP, but you never know. enterbrain may change it. after all, they did ban everyone using the patch from verifying their software when LEAP prompted for it.
You could always piggyback off their battle system scripts to mold in your favor.

oh wow, i didnt realize you can customize the game where you can do a FF style battle system, thats great. seriously, how far can you customize XP? I mean, could i make an action RPG if i wanted? or would that be too limited?
I'm sure i could do an RPG where i can see the enemies on screen, and then when i touch them, it goes into a battle scene.
I cant wait to really fiddle with this, but i do have a question. If i download the game and pay for it from the proper site, could i save it to a CD, so i dont lose it if something happens to my computer or anything? Is it going to have some special encoding that will only work on the first computer it is installed on?
I'm going to be upgrading, and getting a laptop soon that is better than my desktop, so i was just wondering if it would be a better idea to wait until i get my laptop, or should I just get it, and then i can install it on the laptop once i get it?

KNight-Blade looks awesome. I'd like to do an isometric strategy RPG though. It'll be set in a sort of Mad Max setting, where you'll be able to have some character classes ride motorcycles onto the battlefield and such.
The graphics provided make good templates so I don't need to figure out WHAT tiles I need. I can simply look at what was made, and do my own versions of that tile type from scratch to fit my setting. I've got some awesome cityscapes in mind for my backgrounds, and for my world map, where most strategy RPGs in the vein of Tactics Ogre or FFT use a medieval style map and plot points and paths on it, I want my world map to look like a modern American road Atlas where you can identify interstate highways and such, but with the same points and paths.
Kind of convenient how the sample games have their own custom systems written in, but it won't do us no good if we don't get the sample games. Untranslated or not, they'd be beneficial to keep in the XP for the scripts alone.

if it's ever been done in a sprite based RPG before, you can do it in XP, as long as you're willing to work for it.
as for not having access to the custom battle scripts from the sample games, several people (myself and draygone included) have the japanese software, and can easily copy the RGSS code from them for other people to disect and use.

I'm sure i could do an RPG where i can see the enemies on screen, and then when i touch them, it goes into a battle scene. You're in luck, there's 50 monster sprites for the 50 monsters available in battle, along with 50 human "monsters".how far can you customize XP?It comes with a real programming code to fiddle with if you want to dabble with it, along with the usual easy-to-use point-and-click system.Kind of convenient how the sample games have their own custom systems written in, but it won't do us no good if we don't get the sample games. Untranslated or not, they'd be beneficial to keep in the XP for the scripts alone.Yeah, like Valk said, I'm one of the people who spent $120 to import it, so I have all five sample games available. I'm considering translating them if they work on an American RMXP, actually. It won't be a good translation (especially since I have little real knowledge of the Japanese language or the Japanese humor present in a couple of the games), but it's something I'd like to try nonetheless. Unless someone more fluent in Japanese (and willing to redo the .bmp texts) wants to do it.

Actually, believe it or not, I think Enterbrain is translating Elestian Story (it's on their website so I assume they're doing the translation).

And how far can you customize the game? You're not even limited to making an rpg. Check this out.

A screenshot from a project I'm making where the environments are based off my dreams (the style is kept simple to reflect my mellow dreams). It's a platformer/puzzle game like Out of This World and has nothing to do with actual rpg's. Like Valk said, if it can be done in a sprite-based game, you can do it here (with some work).
