    Playing the piano

I'm considering working on a piano playing sidequest/minigame. However, I'm not entirely sure how to go about it.

Should I try to emulate the piano sidequest in Final Fantasy V? Or should I make it sort of a "Simon Says" minigame, where you have to play a series of musical notes in the right order?

You know, when you reference a mechanic from a game some people haven't played, and ask whether you should go that route, the answers might not be so helpful.

I liked the musical sidequests from Super Mario RPG, where you heard eight-note tunes all around the world and you had to try to recreate them using a note clef in Tadpole Pond (and then you got to hear whatever you played, right or wrong).

A Simon Says thing could work okay, I guess. What's the Final Fantasy minigame like? (Since your game is already an intentional Final Fantasy knockoff, this could be a good way to go.)

In Final Fantasy V, you could find a bunch of Pianos scattered all across the game. At first, you completely suck, but after playing, you get slightly better at playing the piano (the game even tells you so, word for word.)

Over time, as you play more pianos, you get closer and closer to playing a coherent music track. I think it's the Final Fantasy prelude thing, but I'm not sure, since I haven't seen the quest completed yet.
