I had a few trees that were giving me troubles due to storm damage and had to have them removed.
Most were common, but one was a Black Walnut and I told the tree guy to leave a good 8 to 10 feet of that one standing because I wanted to research how to properly store and age it for woodworking. It is a great hardwood for building things or sculpting.
But he cut it all down and it is now laying on it's side getting ready to rot.
Anyone know how to age wood for use in art later? I know if you just want to burn it you leave it anywhere to season, but I have heard that for woodworking you need to control certain conditions during ageing or you get splits, and cracks.
I will be researching this at the library this weekend, but hoped someone here might know something.
Thanks if you can help.
Peace.
