    Plot-related aging and levels

I am working on a game where the two main characters start out as 10 year olds, but then reunite years later as 18 year-olds. I was wondering if there was anyway to retain the levels/experience & abilities the characters got as children when they become adults (i.e. pixel change to an older sprite) without making you have to start over and re-learn everything?

I can't remember, but I think you can do this in an event to change character graphics. I can't remember if you can do this with player characters. I once changed the sprites of two characters getting a disguise to infiltrate a base, but it may have been just a cutscene. And I can't remember how I did it, it's been a year or so since I've used RPGM1.

Yes, it's possible to change party members' graphics.

Can you maybe shed a little more light on this?

Can't you change the before and after graphic on an event, similar to the treasure chest being opened after you activte the treasure event. I'm pretty sure that would work.

Use party display and change the graphic to whatever you want.

To be more specific, it's an event function.

Is it a permanent change? like if I save and reload the game woul dthe change(s) still be there? Also could this apply to characters going undercover and need to only "physically" look like another character, yet retain the same stats?

I'm pretty sure it's a permanent change once the event happens. You can change it back easy enough though.

Ah, this trick. Don't worry, lad; Ren's got this.

Something akin to this happens in Renevine Legacy. It starts off with a playable flashback/prologue to when Syriz is 9, and he goes up a level fighting one of the Skrellter that took his parents. After it, the game returns to present day, in which he's 17 with his original sprite and still level 2.

                    .:My Method:.

I put this in the Intro Script for the flashback map.

                    Party Display: Default
Chara Graphic: 1 Syriz Char. 27 Clr. 3

This made Syriz load into the map as a young boy, and when the flashback ended, I had the screen go black and inserted this.

Chara Graphic: 1 Syriz Char. 7 Clr. 4

Then I just warped him back to where he'd be in the future. When the screen cleared, he was a teen.

                    Need any more help?

Why would you necro a topic that's over two years old in order to give a solution to a problem that's already been solved?

Didn't see how old it was.

That, and I felt obligated to help out since I understood how to do it.

Closing the thread. Please pay attention to the dates of posts in the future.

To clarify: Even if a question from a few years ago was not completely answered, it's usually best to just let it go rather than bump the thread to "solve" it.

The only real exceptions to the "don't necro" guideline are if the thread is relevant enough now that the only other solution would be to create a new thread anyway, or if the old posts are of great interest.
