    100 Character Limit in RPGM3.

From information gathered from gamefaqs.com concerning Japanese reviews of RPGM3, it appears there may be a 100 character limit in it. Now, this would also include NPCs, going by that information.
In that view, it looks like townspeople, etc. are not handled by events anymore per se, but are actual characters too. So if you had say, 7 characters devoted to playable characters, that would leave you 93 apparently for all of your NPC's. Hopefully monsters will have their own separate max number.
If that information is accurate, well, it's workable of course, although it seemed to displease the Japanese players.

I knew there had to be a catch...so I guess no Suikoden style games huh? There's always something about the RPG Maker games that always seem to put a damper on things.

They are like Saga games...the games could have great ideas, but then some feature keeps them from being totally enjoyable.

Since RPGMXP is coming out, I'm not too concerned about the limitations of RPGM3, I just figure that I'll work within the RPGM3 limitations, and if I need more freedom I'll make a RPGMXP game.

Also, I can already think of some workarounds for the 100 character limit for NPC characters, so i don't think it'll be too much of an issue.

So if they're handled by actual people then it's going to a bit more tricky to pull off.
There is one thing that pretty much disturbes me in an SRPG....

No, there is no way, that would be TOO limiting, even for a console RPGMaker, there must be a mistake, or miscommunication as to what the character limit is. or maybe it is limited to 100 characters per map or something like that. 100 characters total would be insane.

Well that could make things a little harder. I really hope that the enemys don't count in that limit. That would cause alot of downfalls in everyones games. Oh well atleast the map editor is going to be cool. Atleast it seems that way.

Well, if it really is a limit of a hundred characters total, perhaps chnaging the color to each of the four options would give us four hundred... technically. It depends how different the color schemes were.

It's a long shot, but it may help.

XP is looking better and better. I like the console makers because the finished product is easy to share with people who do not have 'puters, but do have playstations (like some of my younger relatives).

Let's hope it's just some sort of misunderstanding.

              Peace.

              MOO!

yes. 100 character limit would stump all of our game ideas. mine especially i want each town to have at least 10 townspeople.

It's simple to overcome the problem; just recycle the characters and change their dialog depending on what location they're in.

Either way we'll see in sep 20.

A 100 character limit is perfectly workable as far as I'm concerned. I'm not bothered by it at all. You just have to find ways to work with it to suit your needs. 100 characters is still a pretty good number.

Yeah, exactly, we can probably place the same character in different towns, and since we have limited character models anyways, it's not gonna change much.

Yeah, it probably won't be that much of a set back. RPG Maker XP will be a lot more powerful than RPG Maker 3, that's the one I'm looking forward to right now.

Too true...I don't see the limit as a detriment to myself either. One way or the other, it'll work fine for my purposes.

Only other thing that can really be gleaned from the Japanese reviews I saw is that the battles were too slow to their tastes. Only time will tell if this may have been fiddled with for the NA release or not.

RPGM battles have always been slow though. At least this time it isn't all text based. I'm sure it's faster than the other two but just slower than commercial RPGs. Which is to be expected.

I'm confused about this character limit thing though. Are you saying it's like the character models database in RM2 or is it something else?
