The hardest part of making a game

The reason I only made story games until my current project is I've tried making a normal game, and it's hard and intimidating. I've figured out the 2 hardest things about making a game. 1- Balancing monsters' stats with party's power, levels, and experience. 2- Economy. Keeping track of items and gold drops and prices in shops is pretty hard too. If everything's cheap or there's too much gold, you'll blast through the game with all the healing items and best weapons early. But I think I'm getting better with these problems. Ne1 have any suggestions for helping these? Basic tips?

I made some templates to help with stats and costs. I have used them in every single game that I have made (in one form or another), and they really do help!

Usually what I do when creating weapons and other equippable items is create the first set that all characters are going to need, then copy them, and edit the copies, that way I can base the next tier of equipment off of the previous one, and adjust the stat boosts and prices accordingly. To balance the enemies, I add the character's strength to the boost of the weapon and subtract the enemy's defense value. The remainder is the amount of damage the character will do. For skills, the damage is the skill's effect value minus enemy defense. For magic, it's the magic stat plus the spell effect minus the enemy's magic defense. Do the reverse to calculate the monster damage. I also set the enemy's defense to 0, which makes it a lot easier to calculate the proposed damage. Ideally, I like to have enemies that are killable in no more than 2-3 hits from physical, magic or skill attacks, and have the enemy be able to kill the character in 4-5. To change things up a bit, I make some enemies strong and or weak against various types of attacks.

Making balanced stats and weapon tracking is easy!
The hardest part is conceptualizing a new game. The beginning of everything has always been the hardest for me.
Sometimes you get creative, but mostly you get dull.
