    AOL or AOHell.

Ok it seems my stepmoter wants the replace my Charter DSL with a cheap copy of AOL at the end of the year.

I told her i did'nt want it on my comp cause of the horror stories i've heard about it.

Besides has anyone had has these experiences with AOL cause to me it's somewhat not worth it.

I've been trying to tell her that. But it's cheap she says yeah right and i wonder why there are two Charter Cable boxes. One in the living room and one in her room.

            Re: AOL or AOHell.

My family used it back when it was AOL 5.0, until we found that it was cheaper and faster to use DSL in Internet Explorer. So I don't know if it's gotten better/worse over the years.

At it's core, it's an internet browser. But it inserts all these little nuances and AOL-members-only crap into that really isn't needed. Plus, it puts your parents in direct control over what sites you're browsing, even if it's on seperate computers, I believe.

It's an okay deal if you're not computer-savvy and you want an all-in-one internet package, and you don't mind selling your soul to them. But there are some cheaper/easier/better deals out there.

And yes, it does slow your computer down a lot. Have fun trying to play games with it running.
            ...and that's why.

AIM is alright, but everything else AOL related is generally not worth it.

                  AOL is a resource hog.

It's expensive, compared to local companies.

Its browser is horrible and very uncompliant.

The connections are slow, and disconnect often.

                  Etc, etc.

It's just a bad program made by a bad company. This is an absolute last resort. Please, don't get that low.

On a side note, the AOL trial disc makes a GREAT frisbee.

I like playing table hockey with them and using them as coasters. I've also used them as chew toys(Don't try this at home, kids!).

You could use them to make a full scale tribute of the WTC towers. I figured it'd take like a month to get enough of them in the mail, maybe two.
