    Auction House

A guy named Soliloquey asked me to come up with a way to have an auction house system in RPGM3.

I'm in a foul mood: All of the stuff I type got deleted by the site just for a laugh. So, when I'm less ******-off, I'll actually start working on it... AGAIN.

I made a little eBay system in Perversion and Paper, but nothing that would go as far as a full Auction House.

It would be do-able to simulate Auction House behavior, but I don't see what the point would be in RM3.

I think it's a cool idea, as far as taking up time and space goes, it's kind of a waste.

But they had the Auction House in Final Fantasy IX, and I always did love that.

I was thinking of modeling it after FFVI's auction house, since that's the one I played.

I was actually thinking of the same thing, Deeth. And an auction house like that wouldn't be too difficult to pull off. RPGM3 has a way to check your money in events, right? So just put in some pre-programmed bids and sells, and give the player a chance to bid every so often. Maybe have the biddings branch off in different ways depending on when you make your bids. Like make it so bidding early leads to a branch where the item ultimately gets more expensive faster.

Astoundingly, it does not - unless you use a custom money system involving variables.

The event structure will be your biggest issue if you try to make something like this.

Really? I could've sworn there was some way to check your money. "A Ronin Story" had a gambling mini-game in it, where you bet 100 gold.

Haven't played it but I imagine one of two things was happening:

                1) You could play the game even if you had less than 100 gold, or even zero gold. Your gold would be reduced to zero, then you'd get to play.

                2) Your money was actually being tracked via variables the entire time, and the "Gold" was just a display of it. (This is what I do in Hell's Dining Room and Perversion & Paper.) This cannot be true if default shops were used.

It's absurd that there's no check for gold and equally absurd that there's no check for holding items (except Treasure items) - which has led people to a lot of different workarounds.

Probably the first, then, 'cause you got gold from enemies and default shops were used.

In that case, perhaps what I would recommend is selling auction vouchers worth certain amounts, and use those in place of auctioning money.

You can't check standard items as an event condition, and offhand I don't think you can sell treasure at shops. You MIGHT be able to work a system where enemies drop Auction vouchers as Treasure, but it wouldn't be simple to implement (because each individual copy of a voucher would need to be unique).

RM3 is impressive in a lot of ways but they really dropped the ball on event conditions.

In the end, if you want to do cool gameplay stuff that's not part of the cliche RPG setup, and you want to work that into something bigger (like an actual RPG), it's best to use one of the other Makers, especially RMXP/VX.

Let me guess: you can't have event conditions based on regular items.
