The subtext in Trump's comment is that Obama got into Harvard because of affirmative action, and that black people (or possibly underprivileged young people) got into good colleges over people who "deserved" it more.

I happen to believe that hard quotas (or giving points for being in a general category of people like white or black or yellow or XY or XX) are abhorable, whereas taking someone's upbringing and history into consideration is fine. And I think this would be an excellent springboard for a national political discussion had Trump not blindly used it as a way to attack Obama's legitimacy.

People will probably condemn Trump as a racist for remarks like this, and in a lot of ways they are totally right.

Birthers are complete morons. The media should just ignore them so as not to validate their idiocy in any way, but many journalists really are at least left-leaning, so they probably give it undue attention to make all conservatives look like morons. And non-issues like this garbage tend to drown out real political debate as well, so any valid criticism of Obama gets ignored.

Trump likely doesn't believe this birther nonsense anyway. He knows how to promote a brand regardless of how much BS it contains, and that's what he's doing here. And I doubt he's stupid enough to actually believe the birther trash. He does know that it will make him look good in the eyes of the hicks that believe it, that's why he used it. Look how much his polls shot up after he started his rants. He knows what primary Republican voters want to hear, and he's telling it to them as much as they want.

Anyone who actually believes the birther male bovine feces is a complete and utter mental defective. If Obama wasn't a legitimate presidential candiate, the Clintons would have been all over it in the 2008 primaries. They know how to campaign dirty and don't hestitate to do so; and they would use any sort of illegitimacy of an opponent early and often.

One person has seen Obama's birth certificate, well I'm convinced. It's simply inconceivable that she could have been bribed. Why would anyone want to do that? It's not like a presidency would be at stake or anything.

But seriously, I don't think it matters and don't really care. He's out in a year and a half anyway. All this stuff about the BC, on both sides, just seems like intentional political distractions.
