A question for you interwebs video peeps

I guess this is towards Bonanza, Highwind, or any of you other guys who have stared at a camera and thrown it out into the vast horrifying deluge that is the interwebs. What camera do you use, and what editing software do you use?

    I'm curious Cosby.

I don't do it often, but I use my MacBook's camera. Or my iPhone 4 (at 720p 30fps, really amazing quality for a 'phone').

Then there's the Sony Cybershot, little digicam.

I keep around this Sony Digital8 camcorder because it can be used as a Firewire device for live video mangling, awesome infrared night-vision for shooting in clubs, and the whole tape thing is kind of cool.

To edit, I can usually get away with using iMovie. For more complex edits and effects, I use Final Cut. For crazy-precise audio-video cuts, I use Ableton Live.

This info probably doesn't help you, as most of it's Apple Shiz. But the thing is, you can use pretty much any camera you want. You could cut it up in Windows Movie Maker or whatever. I haven't touched the windows video apps.

      Expensive stufffffff.

Panasonic HD ACVCAM, 27" iMac, Final Cut Pro.......

What would I recommend for you? A cheap HD camcorder, a Mac, iMovie.

I wish I had an HD camcorder, but it's probably good for the general public that I don't. No one wants to see the wrinkles on my head.

Re: A question for you interwebs video peeps

Why are you guys getting HD camcorders? I understand the need for good audio capture but you can easily record stunning video with a Canon Rebel T3i and even that's high on the budget scale.

But yeah, no need to go overboard budget wise if you're just going to film yourself dicking around in your apartment. On Windows I've always been a user of Avid, and for cheap video editing you can use Premiere or just stick with movie maker if again, it's just you ad libbing in front of your camera.

Final Cut Pro is damn nice though, for those of you on Macs.

Oop, don't get me wrong, HD is certainly cheap enough. I meant camcorder vs. recording with a much cheaper DSLR nowadays.

Though the DSLR as a video recorder is a fairly new trend.

I'm actually considering getting an ipad2 because it has an HD cam. I hope the audio isnt **** though.

Unless you use an external mic or USB audio interface, your audio will be ****.

I've used a Nikon digital camera for the video, capturing audio through a decent microphone and a program called Audacity. For editing, Windows Movie Maker is good enough for simple videos. I personally use a slightly expensive program called AVS Video Editor. Expensive, on account it's part of an entire editing suite.
