Just received my first imported figures today in the mail...question(s)

I know Valk and Crunk and maybe Biggie have some of the giant robot/Transformers/etc models/figures, and have been collecting them for some time/a while. These are my first ones.

My question...do you guys open every figure/model you get, or do you leave some/all still sealed/closed/etc? If you open some and leave some NIB, how do you determine which? If I open these for display, am I gonna kick myself if I decide down the line to sell them, because they will be next to worthless opened? Is it even possible to enjoy something like this without having opened it?

Yeah, these are probably really dumb questions, and I know the answer will be (or should be) "Do what you want to do with them" or "Why get the stuff if you're not even going to open it?", but I'm still new at this, so I was just wondering what your experiences are.

I think the answer should be "Just donate 'em to some needy children."
"Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

I dunno why you would buy something just to have it sit in a box you never open; this would be a good entry under attempts to define insanity

I keep nothing MISB. I open everything. for expensive stuff, or stuff that's hard to store or fragile, I keep the box for if I ever need to put it away.

I am SOOOO glad to know that others open their toys!

The "Don't Open It!" mentality has always confused me.

I'll never forget the time I was at a toy convention and bought a Mego Lt. Uhura figure from their Star Trek line. It was a classic 1970's version, still on it's card.

As soon as I bought it, I opened it right there at the table!

I didn't get to finish what I had in mind because immediately a crowd formed around me. My friend told me later that they eventually formed a complete circle around me, which I thought was hilarious. People were asking me "How could you do that??" and such.

I asked one of the more vocal ones if they had an Uhura figure still on the card. They said yes. So I asked why they weren't thanking me. After all, theirs was now Officially Rarer! There is One Less on the planet now.

When that didn't work, I said loudly - "OK. You want to see WHY I opened it??" and proceeded to remove the Star Trek Uniform, put it in the bag of stuff I bought that day, took out the 8 inch Ronald McDonald figure from the bag, removed his outfit, put it on Uhura, held her out and said "May I take your order?"

Only 2 or 3 people laughed (besides the people I was with). A few just walked away shaking their heads. But there were still a few who were belligerent about it. One even called my actions Racist! How can it be racist to do that? I was just Playing with My Toys.

Good thing they never saw what I did with her when I got home.

I took the Caveman Fur Skirt and Bone Necklace and put her in them, topless. Gave her a Spear, and had her riding the little 6 inch Wesley Crusher figure from Galoob's new (at the time) Star Trek: The Next Generation line, Ponyboy Style!

          Fun times...

          MOO!

Are you trying to say a black woman can only work in fast food, Rodak?!

              Obviously.

I mean, Ronald McDonald was a black woman in white face paint and a clown suit, right?

              MOO!

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

                  Rodak, that's a great story. I would've laughed!

Perv, If you're one of those people that wants to resell everything for some reason, keep the box and all the junk it comes with and say it was "collector owned." There you go.

I've given away a lot of my plastic junk over the past few years, or sold it (or smashed it). I have a few things in the box cause they're either easier to display that way (Cefca), or the packaging is HILARIOUS:
                  Eat Smello.

I open everything I get, and play around with them and put them in cool poses on my shelves and stuff. The only time I keep the box for something is if it has a bunch of accessories like a ton of extra hands and guns.

Like Valk and Crunk, I open everything, but with one exception.

Due to my current habitation(I rent a *very*small room), I leave figures with many small parts MISB(eg Revoltechs).

                      And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope

I don't buy toys any more. I opened all of them when I was younger, because yeah, I wanted to play and/or fool around with them.

If I bought a toy today it would be for 3 reasons:

                        1.To resell

                        2.To decorate

                        3.To goof around and pose

2 and 3 I would just take it out of the box and put it around the house. 1 I would keep in the box and put it in a trunk full of other stuff I just want to collect dust.

So, what do you want to do with it?

My big thing Im waiting for is NECAs 1/4 scale predator to come out in july. ****ing thing will be about 20 inches tall. It will be glorious next to my 1/4 alien they also made. Gigantic super detailed action figures rule.

Ive got the helmetless verion with the mouth open pre-ordered.

Hot Toys also makes big super detailed toys, but theirs are hundreds of dollars while Necas have a little less detail and posability but are like $30-$80.

This topic cannot go without bringing up this episode of Dexter's Lab:
                            http://www.peteava.ro/id-586961-dext...e-cream-scream

As for personal stories, I remember when I was a kid and got a model car for a gift. Naturally, it was my duty to remove it from its stand and play with it. I mean, why else would it have a working steering wheel? :P
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

I'm still hoping for that 1/6 scale Rachel Alucard from BlazBlue. I foolishly canceled my preorder at Play-Asia, and now it's no longer available to preorder almost anywhere.
