    Tetris (RPGM2)

I've been working on a version of Tetris for RPGM2 lately, and it's just about finished. Just need to finish up a few things, such as the music and a couple other features. After that, I'll be sending it to Valk to put up. So hopefully he'll have it by the end of the month.

I mentioned a contest earlier, before the disaster struck this site. The game will include a password feature that will give you passwords based on your high scores and best line counts. When I receive your passwords (along with your scores/line counts), I will create a thread with both high score and best line count rankings. The contest will probably last until Nov. or Dec. 31 (exact details to come later), and the top player(s) will receive prizes (to be determined later -- but before the contest starts). I don't know how much interest there is in this though. How many people would be interested in such a thing, and who would most likely participate? If there's not much interest, I'd probably just scrap the password idea, as well as the contest. But it seems like it could be fun. I'd participate as well, but just not for the prizes. And maybe a special bonus if the winner beats me...

That's sounds pretty cool. A tetris game? Impressive. I was never very good at Tetris so I probably won't be in the contest but it sounds like a really fun idea. Even without prizes I think a lot of people would like to be able to brag about who can outscore whom.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

This sounds cool, but you should use your money to buy a ftd.

Jugem, I am looking forward to trying out your Tetris game. I'm all for that contest you mentioned. Say the word, and I'm there...

            Count me in!

That must have taken some pretty hoopy scripting. I look forward to seeing it.

I'm working on a PONG mini game for RPGM2, so I guess these ideas are not uncommon.

A great (and cheap) prize would simply be the password for the game. I'd love to see how you pulled it off.

            Peace.

            MOO!

                Re: Tetris (RPGM2)

Glad to see there's some interest in this, and I'll keep the contest as mentioned. Progress on the game is going smoothly. I've finished with the music, and now all I've pretty much got left is to work on the password system. And I've already thought about how I'm going to do that. So another few days and this thing should be finished. After that, it's off to Valk. So as I mentioned, I'd like to have this available by Sept. 1. All depends on how long the postal service takes I guess.

And RPGProgrammer, I've been busy. I've been finishing my university degree (I've now got that done, and graduate in October) for one. And I've moved a couple of times, the second time being a few weeks ago. The first time, I moved in with a roommate, and I rarely had the TV to myself. And with schoolwork as well, I just didn't find the time to do much with RPGM2. So that's why I haven't been around much (or I guess at all here). Anyway, I'm now living by myself, so I've got much more time for this now.

Jugem! My fellow Doanian with the same mad skillz to create ACBS games. I commend you on your latest achievement. Just curious as to if the game is done with visual effects of it's done usinga building blocks and stuff on the world map? I could understand how it could work on both. Congrats,

Thanks. Actually, it's done differently than you suggest. I use..., well, I'll let you find out when the game's released. I do use some building models/blocks, but not a whole lot.

Yes, it does have a lot of potential to those creative and determined enough to figure stuff out. I can't tell you how many times I stumbled across roadblocks with this game, but I managed to overcome them.

As for the controls, they work pretty much like any tetris game. Left/Right moves the block left or right until you let go of the button. Down moves the block down faster, until you let go of the button. 'X' rotates the block clockwise, and 'O' rotates the block counter-clockwise (or maybe it was the other way around). '[]' pauses/unpauses the game. And for scoring, you get more points if you hold 'down', depending on how long down is held (without letting go) as the block is dropped. And of course the points you get from clearing lines. Standard stuff.

The password system is just about done. I should be able to finish it tonight, or by tomorrow night at the latest. I'm thinking about just saving the high scores and not the best line counts, since the high score is where it's really at. Maybe I'll also save the line count that corresponds to the saved high score, but I'll probably just have one contest for the highest score. Rewards risky play (ie. going for Tetrises rather than playing safe and clearing one line at a time). Anyway, after finishing the password system, I'll give it another day or two of playtesting (probably already found most/all of the bugs though) and then ship it to Valk.

Just an update. The game is now finished, subject to a bit more playtesting. I'll post again soon with the contest details.

Yes, no matter how much any of you suck at Tetris, you should still enter the contest. There have got to be some people at the bottom of the rankings.

Anyway, it's now completely finished (testing and all), and I'm about to send it off to Valk now. So it should be available soon I hope.
