    Should I get a 360 or a PS3?

I know I'm late to the party but I figure the new consoles are still a couple years off at this point so I think I'm going to get one of these two.

I'm just torn on which one to get. Right now currently leaning towards the PS3 as its exclusives seem to be better. I figure with the free online play, the price is about the same. I don't care about the Blu Ray player. The only thing that makes me want the Xbox is that I know a lot of people with them and I already have 3 xbox controllers I use with my computer. Thoughts?

    Ask yourself this:

Do you want to hear children call you cuss words?

    If yes, choose Xbox 360.

Edit: I know that sounds like a fan-boy generalization.

Every person I know with a 360 has run into problems(be it hardware or other). Microsoft nickle and dimes you on every single thing. It has fewer good exclusives, and the size limitation for patches means many games will only be patched once or twice for free(although exceptions do exist). If you're an indie gamer, Microsoft is the worst for exploitation of indie developers.

That is all on top of the worst online community I've ever dealt with.

Pros and cons for both sides. 360 definitely has the larger online community, but probably the jerkier one as well. So one question to ask yourself might be whether you care more about playing online games with racial epithets and the occasional team kill, or not playing them at all because there aren't enough people to launch the game. To me, the big question would be whether you think you'd game a lot with the other 360 owners you know. If yes, that's probably the system for you. If you're not big into multiplayer, or you don't have a preference for playing with people you actually know, do the PS3. Especially since you already expressed preference for their exclusives.

With most games being multiplatform, it's not as big and important decision which you choose.

I had this problem just last month. I decided on a 360.

        Likes:

-Online community. Linking up with friends and being able to chat with anybody on my friends list is cool. They don't even have to be playing the same game.

-While the exclusives have dropped off, there are still a ton of fun games to play on Xbox Live Arcade, some of which are exclusive.

        Dislikes:

-Microsoft's nickel and diming. They charge for just about everything, it seems, and some prices for online content seems unfairly high. You can get around that however, like buying Live Gold cards when stores put them on sale.

        -Where did the exclusives go?

I think it comes down to personal preference, really. I saw Xbox as the cooler system to own, and my two brothers already own them, so that's what swayed me to it.

I don't really care about the online community being "jerks". I myself like to grief my teammates from time to time (especially if they're arrogant/douchey). Also, not really sure the PS3 exclusives are better, having not played them, going only off what I've heard.

Are you serious about being unable to start games due to lack of players, Hfran? Or are you just exaggerating. Because that would really influence my decision.

Oh, it's serious. But don't think the 360 is immune to that issue either. It really depends on the game. If it wasn't incredibly popular, or has been out for longer than a few months, it'll be hard to find people to play it even on the 360. On the PS3 it'll be more difficult still. For your really big titles, like the Resistance and Killzone series, you'll probably not have much of an issue. But smaller, third party games like Red Faction Guerilla or Bioshock 2? You'll notice.

I would point out that of all the games I've played on the 360, the only one where I found the community to be really insufferable was the Left 4 Dead games. I played all my campaigns in that offline or co-op with people I knew, because you just can't get through them online without someone showing up to engage in teamkilling chicanery. Versus and survival modes are also fairly douche-centric. Otherwise, the jerks are usually a small percentage. I imagine only 1 out of every 100-200 deaths I have in Reach resulted from deliberate betrayal. And I'm a vehicle whore too, so I incur more of that than most. Some games, like Guerilla, there are no problems whatsoever (of course, the fact that team damage is off on that game as a default probably doesn't hurt).

Ah, okay. Well I have a super computer, so 9/10 if the game is on the PC, I'd play that version over the console unless it was clearly designed for the console like CoD. I have no intention of playing Bioshock or L4D on a console.

If you're a big PC gamer, then I would definitely say PS3 has the better exclusives as far as you're concerned. A lot of the Microsoft ones are only exclusive on consoles, but receive a PC release (like the Mass Effect games). Myself, I do virtually no computer gaming (and what little I play is relatively ancient stuff like Red Alert 2 or one of the Fallout games), which makes 360's exclusive list preferable.

I say your decision should be based on the games you're interested. I wound up getting 360 because it had more games I was interested in than the PS3, plus it was backwards-compatible with the Xbox 1 games I liked. (Also because the 360 was actually within my price range at the time.)

I already have 3 xbox controllers I use with my computer.
Are they Xbox 1 controllers? Because as it turns out, they're not compatable with the Xbox 360. (Or if they are, I'd like to know how.)

Stick with your PC, and buy a sweet graphic card for it instead of buying a console.

I already have one of the best graphics cards on the market. I can play virtually everything on ultra settings. My interest in getting a console is for the newer Maddens, MvC3, CoD, Red Dead Redemption, etc.

                      No, they are 360 controllers.

I have both, though I prefer my PS3. I don't do a lot of online gaming, I watch a lot of blu-rays on it, and it's got exclusives that I like a lot (Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, not to mention the Playstation Classics and really cool games for download on the PSN).

I dont need to say much, except for free online play, and so far there are only 2 exclusives coming to the 360 this year that wont be on the PS3 or PC, and thats Gears 3 and Forza 4. I'm sure more will be announced at E3, but its all really preference.

PS3 has more exclusives, the multiplatform games are just as good on the PS3 and have similar amounts of online players. You are only going to find that you cant find people to play with on the PS3 when the game is old, and wasnt that popular in the first place. Hell, Killzone 3 is out and there are still a ton of people playing Killzone 2.

Eh, some multiplatform games look worse on PS3 still. Red Dead Redemption is one. There's a lot less environmental detail in the PS3 version.

Every time I've turned on my PS3 for the past few months, I've been met with a new "firmware update required" message. None of the firmware updates actually add any features. Fun stuff.

I havent heard that about Red Dead, but then again, i havent played it.

And Valk, unless you have only turned your PS3 on a couple of times in the past 6 months it hasnt happened that often.

There have been 4 firmware updates in the past 6 months: 9/21, 12/7, 1/26, 3/10.

And the 3/10 update blocked GeoHotz hack of the PS3, so it isnt hackable again, atleast for now.
