Ooga Booga I try online with PS3 now.

After my frustration of not being able get any DLC for my games (mainly the free kind I am owe for pre-orders) I'm making a serious attempt to get it. I still don't have internet service, but as you can tell I know someone with it. Because I'm as technically sound as a caveman I come to you guys. They have wireless internet and I'm wondering how I could go about using it with my system. Don't bother saying open instruction manual. That went bye bye.

As I said, I'm as technically sound as a caveman. Didn't know it would be that simple.

Aside from the free stuff that came with preorders or games themselves, I would think about picking up either a few PSN cards or point cards for individual games (they sell these at Gamestop). If you have the opportunity to go online now, but possibly not again in the near future, I would recommend picking up some of the smaller downloadable titles. You can look through any number of topics to find recommendations. Too bad Journey is not out yet, as I know you've expressed interest in that. Maybe it'll be released tomorrow.

But if you can afford a $50 PSN card, which is less than the price of one full retail game at brand-new pricing, you can pick up 4-7 games, depending on their pricing.

Uugh... it still won't let me online. It keeps saying some nonsense about a DSN error. Wonderful!

          DNS error.

Turn off the PS3, turn it back on, then scan for networks and tell it to do an automatic/easy detection of all configurations. If you keep getting that error it's likely a problem on their side that needs to be fixed.

Is this network open? Do you have any way to find out?

Seems likely that the problem is on their side. I'm not sure if it is an open network or not. Not entirely sure what an open network is, to be honest. I'm not really sure if there is a way for me to find out if they have one. The internet service is my grandparents and they know less than I. Seems I'm still screwed. Oh well, I guess I'll go cry me a river. Ya know, so I could possibly drift somewhere to use my PS3's online capabilities.

If it's your grandparents and it's wireless--you can get on it. I assume they have a computer, right? You can access the router's homepage through the network map and determine if it's a private or public network, and if it is private you can find out what the passcode is. It's possible all you need to do is reset the router by unplugging everything, then plugging it back in. And... yeah. I've a feeling this will all go over your head. :I

If they are grandparents, most likely they did not put a password on their Wifi. I would find the router, turn it over, look for something that looks like a UPC, write these numbers down (usually 11 or 13 digits), and then have the PS3 under Network Settings scan for a network. If it finds your grandparents', it should prompt for a WEP key, which will be that number you wrote down from the bottom or back of the router. And really, that should be all you need to do.

I would like to thank everybody for your help. It turns out my grandparents forget that they stopped using wireless and started using some wired high speed internet thing. After all of these attempts it hit them... I knew I should have bought an ethernet cable just in case. At least we know why the most simple of functions will not work. Ooga Booga!

How did you arrive to be at your grandparents' house?

                        By vehicle, most likely.

Nope. I did run into a dingo, though. It took my baby...
