it's more or less happening still. I'm reading blogs saying aftershocks are happening every so often, and there's no clear word on the damage near the epicenter yet....and that's why.Comment

Worst earthquake japan's had in 300 years. 7th most powerful in history, apparently. Tsunami is measured at 10 meters.

Tokyo Tower has actually been bent from the quake.
Japan is typically really well prepared for this type of thing, so hopefully deaths will be minimal.
there was also an earthquake in china. Possible pre-shock.

It's quite awe-inspiring (and a little scary), seeing those waves carrying away whole houses, with no sign of stopping. I can't imagine what it's like for those who actually live there.
