    favorite video game soundtrack?

I'd have to say Final Fantasy VI. it was the first soundtrack I ever bought (Kefka's Domain, totally boss). it has so many songs that I feel compelled to listen to, even while driving around, I don't even give a ****. so beautiful and stirring.

and of course, how can you forget one of the greatest moments in 16-bit history.

that opera scene is the first moment in a video game I can recall being completely floored by what I was experiencing. it just hit me so damn hard for some reason. the way the "oohs" in the song matched up with the lyrics on screen, I'd never seen anything like that in a game. despite being part of a story within a story, about characters I knew next to nothing about and didn't have any sort of emotional attachment to, I was just so moved by it. it's absolutely beautiful.

it's just such a sentimental soundtrack for me. it was the first time I'd ever played a game and felt that I was embarking on an adventure. that opening title crawl was the coolest thing I'd ever seen when I was a kid, and it still gives me chills to this day.

what about you? explain your choices and give examples.

FFVII. Not the biggest fan of the game, but the soundtrack is second to none. Cosmo Canyon, The Turk's theme, One Winged Angel, etc

Its impossible to justify one's choice in music. You can''t really objectively argue why one grouping of songs is superior to another. Second, I gave examples. I didn't post youtube videos of them because that just makes for really long posts--if anyone wants to listen to the songs, go to youtube and do a search.

Donkey Kong Country 2 because it is awesome.

Also, OoT's soundtrack is a huge nostalgic rush and the Windmill song is like my all-time favorite.

Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals is easily my favorite soundtrack, but FFVI and some others are definitely up there.

The game has some of the most rockin' boss themes ever, and luckily they never get annoying to hear.

Not only are the boss themes good, but a lot of the dungeon music is excellent as well.

By far, the single best piece of music in the game, and the one that really sets it apart is this:

Sadly that last one is only played once in the entire game and only for a short period of time.
            1) Statement 2 is true
            2) Statement 1 is false

              Chrono Trigger.

Here's the top 10 list I made on another site a few months back. Looking at it now, I might switch Chrono Cross above Halo.

              1. Chrono Trigger
              2. Final Fantasy Tactics
              3. EarthBound
              4. FF 7
              5. Halo 1
              6. Chrono Cross
              7. Max Payne
              8. Metal Gear Solid 3
              9. KotOR
              10. Faxanadu

Incidentally, the top 3 on that site going by all users who submitted a list are FF7, Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Cross.

I would just switch the word 'justify' with 'explain'. Because some choices are self-justifying. Chrono Trigger's my favorite because every era, every character, and every boss has music that fits so perfectly that it uplifts what is already an excellent gaming experience.

depends how true to soundtrack you mean. i think the whole album of xenogears creid is very well done and easily my top ablum ever.

if i had to pick a single song more closely to a direct ost style then id say xenogears distant promise.

this song has so much emotion boiled up into it. its like a childs longing, with a nostalgic ping. its a sad melody of a past thats dead and gone, but a sliver of hope still remaining. its the imprint of a memory.

xenogears has one of the best sound tracks ive ever enjoyed.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
Card Three is released! You can find it here!

Silent Hill 2 - A killer OST with a softer side. It's a great mix of the expected industrial sound together with soft, almost ambient tones. The music is so good, it's always on my mp3 player.

Most of these songs all sound much better than the crummy youtube transfers, but whatever.

This trio (played back to back on the OST) is a good place to start.

This one is also my favorite tracks of the game.

You only hear part of this tune in the actual game, but I think this one track sums up the overall mood perfectly.

                        Truly epic boss battle music:

                        FINAL BOSS **** YEAH:

If that's too loud, try this:

There are also three tracks that were only released on the "art of silent hill" dvd. They are Caramel Mix, Ki-no-ko, and the infamous Fukuro... which I probably shouldn't post here. So instead here's some silent hill rave music.

I love this OST, and although I like a lot of the SH music, this is my all time favorite.

Whoever did the Beast Wars:Transmetals soundtrack on PS1 had a huge ***** for classic rock/metal. I salute them for it.

SH2's final boss music is so killer, it's kinda funny how much more tension it has the fight itself.

Demon's Souls is great, too. I love how commanding the piano is in this piece, with this really epic swell at the end.

Dragon Warrior/Quest was always memorable for me, mainly cause I used to know this dickhead who thought he was like the greatest musician ever because he'd literally steal music from the games (before they were really big here) and pass it off as his own writing.

Mine are fairly obvious: Symphony Of The Night, Silent Hill (especially 2-4), Final Fantasy VIII.

So for some more unconventional choices:

Awful lyrics aside I'll always have a soft spot for the Sonic Adventure soundtrack, it's just got this really...I can't describe it, but despite being the first non-midi sonic tracks it still has this iconic signature sound to it that you know right away it's from a Sonic game.

**** it, in general Sega was on FIRE during the dreamcast ages:

Posted this last time a VG music topic came around, but Tekken 2 and 3 also have like my favorite soundtracks ever, really great "running music".

Brave Fencer Musashi's soundtrack is amazing and triumphant as ****. It's a huge variety of music over two CDs, and, to me, it's the best part of the game, not only standing apart as an excellent soundtrack, but actively making the game BETTER by being a part of it.

These are all of my favorite tracks in one playlist.

But if I had to pick one,

What's really amazing to me is that his composer doesn't do more work. The last two things he did were Brave Fencer Musashi and The Last Remnant.
