    28 gigs left out of 232

    I did some judicious pruning a few weeks ago, and a bit more today, but my PS3's 250 gig HDD (232 usable) is down to 28 gigs remaining. Due to how delicate the screws on the HDD assembly are, I stripped them replacing it the first time, and now it's pretty much permanently a 250 gig.

    Plus, my buddy's brother put a 500 gig in his PS3, but it only gave him 320 gigs of usable space. Has anyone heard of an upper limit for usable HDD space on a PS3? I'm not sure what to do to pare down. I removed some albums I had ripped. I removed a bunch of demos. I removed some extraneous video content. Not sure what else to get rid of.

    Maybe 420 gigs, but not 320. Was that after he restored his backup and stuff? Most likely a 500 gig hdd would give him about 460 gigs of useable space, if he really only got 320, then he didnt get a 500 gig drive, or something is wrong.

    When clearing out space on the HDD, it is a good idea to go through the Game Data Utility and remove installs and stuff for games you no longer own or dont plan on playing for a while.

      You could always get a stripped screw removal kit from a hardware store. Theres tons of ways to pull out stripped screws.

          Yeah, it's pretty easy to get stripped screws out. Sony will send you replacement screws, too.

                Wow. I have a 60 gig on my 360 and still have 14 or so left over. What are you putting on this thing?

                  I blew through the 60 gigs initially on my PS3 in about 7 months. You know Sony's marketing slogan for the PS3, It Only Does Everything? There's your answer.

                    "Everything" means more than stockpiling just porn on your HD, Perv.

                      Nope. There's no porn on my PS3's HDD. When someone comes over, I really do not want all that right out in the open.


                      It's all on my external HDD.

                        So when you're entertaining company and the mood is right, you offer to whip out your external hard drive? And then possibly also the thing where your porn is stored?
