    Traps not doing damage

This is weird, no matter how high I set the amount of damage I can't get the traps in my first dungeon to do any sort of damage to the party at all.

Am I forgetting something cause I'm really confused. I don't remember ever having this problem before.

This is just a guess, but maybe traps don't cause damage in certain test modes.

Oh seriously? That's all it is?

I basically bugfix as I go with the Playtest mode in Edit so I guess maybe Trap damage just doesn't work in that mode then hmm.

That seems strange to me for the designers to make it that way though.

        Hey ChaosKnightXD.

If you are playtesting the game, the damage should be taken by any triggered traps.

Here are a couple of possible issues:

In the dungeon editor, you assigned the trap damage to the wrong kind of trap. For example, let's say that you created a spiked wall trap, but assigned the damage to the lava trap. That might be one thing to check.

Another possibility is that your just previewing the dungeon. Doing a preview in the dungeon editor is just basically a walkaround without any real game play elements. For example, you'll see any events that you created in that dungeon, but you can't actually trigger them in preview mode. The same goes for traps. You'll see the graphic for the trap, but nothing else happens at all. Remember though that I'm talking here about Preview mode in the dungeon editor. In playtest mode, the traps WILL trigger damage.

        Hope that helps.

I assigned 4 different kinds of traps to do damage, none of which are doing any damage, they all hit for 0 instead.

Also I'm assigning keys to locked doors that the player does not have but you can unlock them anyways. Again maybe this only happens in playtest mode in Edit like Draygone said. It's not preview mode as I am interacting with my events and seeing if they work right.

When you're playing from a save game, it doesn't automatically update the data. The locks should work just fine when you start a new game, however.

I was just going to post that Obright. Beat me too it.

If you loaded a save from Area1 to test Area2, and you had that save before you added these traps--it will not work correctly. Older RPG Makers had that problem as well.

Try playtesting from the beginning, even if it's a huge PITA. (Or set your starting point at the dungeon you want to test, then reset it to the beginning of the game when you are done testing it)

Oh well in that case it's not a problem. As soon as I finish this game and work out all the kinks I plan to do a fresh run in "Play" just to make sure everything works properly.

That's a very odd thing to include in the gameplay save. "After two hours of gameplay, Alex is currently at Level 5, with 52HP and an attack of 20, and is holding an equipped Great Axe and two Potions, and oh by the way, that trap in the Very Mines causes 8 damage."

I wonder why they had it programmed to save that way.

                    Re: Traps not doing damage

Because the game knows you might go back and change it, so to keep it from bugging out if something is added, it acts like it isn't there.

Just to confirm what people are saying I tried running through on a new file and the traps and locked doors and everything work in the dungeon on this save.

Yea I didn't think RPGM3 would be like RPGM1 and that certain edits you make won't show up. That was a real pain in RPGM1.

What about all the other stuff you can change and add but don't mess up the save?

Changing anything in that items/classes/monsters/people section seems to mess up the save. You can change everything else as far as I know, the changes seem to transfer over to old saves just fine.

Oh and btw, according to UPS my Max Drive should be coming in the mail tomorrow, ordered it from that codejunkies site. That means as soon as I finish this game I'll finally be able to upload a game to this site. Currently at 9.2% usage rate and I absolutley expect to use all 100% and be starved for memory.

I have a question related to this. Say I make a rogue with the special trait disable traps. How would I know to use the rogue to disable the trap? How does that trait work anyways?

Oh I have another quick question now but I don't really want to create a whole new topic it's not that big of a question anyways.

I notice when you press Select that the Graphics Usage % fluctuates a lot. Sometimes it'll be at 10% or 30% and sometimes it'll shoot all the way up into the 90's. Is this just telling me how much graphics processing power is being used up atm and when it reaches 100% does the game start lagging? I just want to know this cause I'm trying not to go overboard on anything and I want to make this game as lag-free as possible.
