Would you be more accepting if you lost either your legs or your arms? This is, if you had to lose them for whatever (medical) reason. No, "I would be more accepting if I didn't lose either." I was inspired by a friend, doing this school survey thingy she's working and writing on. Just made me curious, is all. If memory serves, she was studying on what people would be willing to sacrifice, how people take simple things that we are able to do for granted, etc.

Re: If you were crippled...
Why, though? The reason why was half the point of the study.

Re: If you were crippled...
Legs; you need your arms for an incalculable number of tasks, everything from eating to scratching your balls (not something I'd want to try with a hook hand). You basically just need your legs for walking, and various variations on walking such as running or climbing stairs."Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

Re: If you were crippled...
That was something that occured to me after my post, Josh. Let's not underestimate the value of that.
Fortunately, unlike legs it's pretty hard to lose both arms at once. Pretty sure most armless people out there were born that way.Last edited by Hrafn; 02-19-2011, 05:51 PM."Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

Re: If you were crippled...
I chose legs for the same reason as already stated. I do everything with my arms. Legs just help me get around."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Re: If you were crippled...
It looks like I'm the only person who said "arms", which I'm guessing is because I got confused at the fact that the answers didn't say "no arms" and "no legs".
So, to be clear, even though I voted "arms", if I had to lose one I would lose my legs, for basically the reasons everyone else said - you can get around in a wheelchair, and although not being able to move freely or stand up would be pretty horrible, it would be a lot worse to not be able to open a door, hug someone, or eat in a dignified way.
This question really made me appreciate my capacities.

Re: If you were crippled...
Here is a somewhat better question: your dominant arm, or both legs? Keeping in mind that with only one arm, there will be some things you cannot do, but nowhere near the number if you had 0 arms.Last edited by Hrafn; 02-20-2011, 03:40 AM."Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

Re: If you were crippled...
That's not a debate, Denmo. Better to have sight by far. Like the legs vs. arms thing, it's a situation where one of them is important, but the other is absolutely vital, and the loss of it would change every facet of your existence and making living independently quite difficult.Last edited by Hrafn; 02-20-2011, 10:55 AM."Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

Re: If you were crippled...
Still the legs. Being on the computer and playing video games are my primary forms of entertainment, and both would be hindered with the loss of an arm, to various extent. Although for hunt-and-peck people, it wouldn't likely be as big a deal.Originally posted by Hrafn View PostHere is a somewhat better question: your dominant arm, or both legs?
