    proposed national budget cuts

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...020903675.html

office of science funding cut 20 percent, funding for public broadcasting eliminated, WIC cuts, job training programs cut (because this will obviously help create jobs), community health centers cut, maternal and child health care grants cut...

They say this will create jobs, but... um... forcing these places to lay people off kind of does the opposite.

I know, they need to cut the budget or face government shut down.

So how about that war where we've been shoveling cash into furnaces for most of the last decade?

That's communist talk! I bet you're one of them Obama Bin Laden supporters too! Putting more money into the fight against terrorism will create plenty of jobs. Every patriotic American knows that.

They should just cut education. School isn't worth anything to anybody, anyway.

The idea is that you are putting money back into the general economy, which will create jobs.

But yeah, obviously agree with you on the war thing. They should start by cutting the DoD's budget by 50% at least.

Every action that any administration takes will always be justified by "it will create jobs" and it's worth remembering that 98% of the time the so-called job creation is utter horse****.

I clicked the link, saw "GOP leaders" and immediately closed the page. Yeah, I don't need a daily reminder of human stupidity.

Its like they have no conscious, no common sense.

Personally, i would like to find out how much some government workers are REALLY making, especially with the crap that happened in Bell, it wouldnt surprise me that some government workers are actually making more than the president, and that should stop. NO Government worker should make more than the president, and i bet if there was some government accounting done, i bet we could save alot of money right there.
But i'll guarantee that any Republican in that list would fight tooth and nail for their money, even with all of the kick backs they get from right wing groups and big business.
But then again, i'm sure that more than a few democrats would do the same thing.

100 billion or so is so much money. i agree that eliminating the "war" on terror would significantly increase the amount of money at the governments disposal. how is security related items not on the table? shouldnt they be looking to cut stuff that offers no return?

yea, cut services that benefit people with little money or stuff thats beneficial to society. that clearly is the right way to go.

You people do realize that these are only proposals that haven't even been brought to a vote on the floor of the House right? That perhaps various House committees may alter such proposals before such a vote is even taken? That the Senate is still controlled by the Democrats and for any of these proposals to get enacted the Senate has to pass the bill as well? And even if that were to happen by some slim chance Obama would likely veto a bill that cut too much and the GOP doesn't have enough votes to override such a veto?

I don't understand why so many people are in favor of cutting our "defense" budget when A. when we stop maintaining a strong presence in the Middle East we are only going to invite increased hatred and violence towards the U.S. and the western world for projecting a weak image, B. a lot of our defense budget is used for research and development which ensures the security of the country by having our military by the most technologically advanced, and stuff like paying troops, and C. our defense budget compared to other countries when you factor in percentage of GDP etc. is a smaller.

How about instead of trying to burn down the military security of the American nation we instead **** all of the people who take advantage of welfare and entitlements-- Jesus christ half of Americans don't even pay taxes and if we continue to spend money on entitlements as we have since the 1960s we are going to be spending 100% of our goddam budget on giving people goddam money.

Thus the word "proposed" in the title.

I don't understand why so many people are in favor of cutting our "defense" budget when A. when we stop maintaining a strong presence in the Middle East we are only going to invite increased hatred and violence towards the U.S. and the western world for projecting a weak image
I'd rather this country have a "we take care of our own people first" image, than a "foreign invaders/occupation" image.

That anyone would care what our image to the rest of the world is, when our own nation is falling apart with a failing economy and job market, and schools and services that millions of people here seriously depend on are constant targets for funding cuts or outright elimination is absurd to me. I don't care if a few people abuse the services, the vast majority don't.

Fix things HERE, then worry about what the rest of the world thinks. We're spreading ourselves too damn thin, and that's obvious to everyone everywhere. That's the image we're projecting. Not a strong one. But that of a soon-to-be-bankrupt country that rarely cares about it's own citizens.

My sister was flipping through my old year book and started complaining about the superintendent who was still in charge. The first words out of her mouth were "He's getting a $130,000 raise." I asked her "Above what?" and she said "His $300,000 a year salary." Meanwhile, the school cut 20 teachers, dissolved the student driver program, and removed all the AP classes. Disgusting.

Fun fact, every single enlisted person in the military up to E-7 earns way below the poverty line. If it weren't for government funded benefits, they would all be on welfare. Meanwhile, some chief of police in California earns as much as the president. Amazing.

I think you mean dirty, dirty entitlements.

That's what stuff like that is called now.
