18 inches or something over the next 6-8 hours is expected, maybe more, and it's like white-out conditions.

Re: Is it blizzard-ing by you guys too?
I just got sent home early, and the mall is closing at 5. If our store is closed tomorrow, they'l call me in the morning, and I get paid to sit at home. Even if I was at work, I'd get paid my $6 an hour with no customers anyway, so I'd rather make the same pay to sit at home and sell nothing instead of standing around and doing the same.

Not terribly here, but the wind is kicking up a ton of snow. We've had ~5-6 inches and the wind gusts are 30MPH.
My sister is in Joplin, Mizzouri, and they've gotten over 16 inches in the last 10 hours. They are expected to get 2 feet of snow by tonight. I am really glad I am not there right now.

It's raining over here, too. We've got about a half an inch of ice so far and other places have over an inch; most of the surrounding counties are under level 3 weather emergencies. It's pretty fun. We're expecting mass power outages once the weight of the ice becomes too much for the power lines (and random tree limbs) to handle.
And it's probably gonna keep raining like this through the night!

Not to sound like a dick, but the amount of panic 18 inches of snows inspires in some of you guys makes me laugh. We've had several snow storms this winter where each time at least two feet of snow have fallen and several times every service is still running. Especially school

Its not really panic. Some American cities do not even have snow-removal due to their geographic location so 4'' of snow can really slow the city down to a crawl. Not to mention most people in Canada probably have way better cars for getting around in the snow, since you expect to get it a lot more than we do in say, Texas.

Well the thing you need to take into consideration is the preparedness of the areas in question. I know that Dayton, Ohio can't handle nearly as much snow as Madison can. My sister is used to an annual snow accumulation of around 100 inches whereas we here in Dayton are used to a tenth of that at best. We simply don't have the same kind of resources.

Calling in the national guard and having emergency messages running all over TV doesn't substitute as panic?Originally posted by Mcardy View PostIts not really panic. I don't see how 4 inches of snow could really do much, if you have a car that can't handle that much snow I think it's time to upgrade.
I had to drive a ski-doo to get to my finals last semester. No big deal.
