What's your opinion on Saga Frontier if you played it? I played the first one a while back and I thought it was a great game (somehow I lost it). Then I tried playing the second one and I couldn't even play it for more than 10 minutes it was SO horrible. I even gave it a second chance not too long ago and it still REALLY sucked. I still remember the first one being fun though, it looks like the online reviews are split down the middle. Lots of peeps like it and lots hate it.

Re: Saga Frontier
Saga Frontier is one of my all time favorite rpgs on PSX. I don't know why. It's a really really strange game but something about it appeals to me.
I also liked Saga Frontier II but it was too non-linier for me to keep playing it.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Re: Saga Frontier
I particularly enjoyed the first one. It ditched the idea of keeping the entire game immersed in the trite medieval cliches I had grown tired of with its refreshing setting composed of all sorts of realms and locations. One minute you could be gambing in Baccarat, and the next minute, you could be below a parking garage filled with cars chilling with a bunch of gnomes, while packing automatic weapons. The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder." ~ Thomas Jefferson

Re: Saga Frontier
As far as SaGa games go, I love them more than other rpg's because they are not your usual rehashed type. And if you couldn't tell already, i am wanting the remake to Romancing SaGa as well. The music, and artowrk by Tomomi Kobayashi are always great too.
I loved SaGa Frontier 1 becuase of its modern/fantasy setting and characters. I also loved the idea of going through the same world in different perspectives, so you could basically choose what type of story you wanted to play. It did get annoying at times simply because some parts never told you where to go after you did something, and being able to go almost anywhere from the start didn't help too much in finding the next spot to go to either. ^^ But then I loved being able to run where I wanted to, doing sidequests and getting new party members and such. Gave some freedom.
SaGa Frontier 2 was good too, but was more like a standard RPG as far as progression in story goes. You knew where to go next (it let you pick which scenarios to do). Although if you didn't bother to upgrade your character's stats and such during one point after saving, you couldn't go back to lvl up some for the harder sections. The pocketstation mini game was ok. Basically download a character from certain npc's to it, and it just digs and digs until it finds an item which you can then use in the actual game.
Unlimited SaGa is my favorite so far. Yes, i know it was like playing a board game when moving around dungeons and towns so it looked like garbage if you are a fanboy for Final fantasy's full 3D worlds, but the real fun was developing your characters in battle and doing quests. It focused more on gameplay rather than pretty polygons. If you play this expecting a final fantasy or even any other style of console RPGs, of course you won't get far in this game. This game actually required people to think a little about who to have fight and what they are fighting with. So many things play a factor in winning battles. One thing was a character's weight. Depending on what type of weapons/armor you give them, their turns, attacks they learn, linking combos, and being able to carry an unconcious character out of battle or even to be carried off by a concious character would be different. Unlike HP in SF1 and 2, the HP in this game acts as a buffer to keeping your character's LP (life points) up. Losing LP is how characters and monsters can die. If a character is taking too many hits, have them sit out some turns to regain HP and switch party members to keep you alive. Can't just have them all out all the time. I loved the battle system with the reels. It was not so impossible to land on a good spot on a reel as some people say it is (its the same as the ones in FF8 and FF6, except you could see more of the reel in U.SaGa).

Re: Saga Frontier
I dig Frontier II. Catchy music. Beautiful backgrounds. Beautiful sprites (excluding the one-on-one graphics). Chapter system let you go where you liked. Ability to save anywhere. Multiple generations. But then I got to the last boss, and realized I wasn't leveled up enough to beat it...
Gouki, did you ever get any pocketstation exclusive items. I dug up a Seven Star Sword Durability 7 that did 7777 damage with each hit. That was neato.

Re: Saga Frontier
One thing about Saga Frontier II is Gustaff. I couldn't stand that guy. And what's up with that name, Gustaff. It's so stupid. Oh man, that Gustaff was such a loser. The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Re: Saga Frontier
I love these games.
Saga Frontier was a great game for me. For a whole year I didn't know what to do. I started out with Blue but couldn't figure it out so I put it aside. Then I decided I would sit down and play this game and finish one quest no matter what. I am glad I did I finished three of the quests, loved every second of it.
Saga Frontier 2. Another great game. I loved the story about Gustave XIII. You felt for this guy because he was outcast. The story to me is the best of the three. Didn't too much enjoy Will knights part of the story, I really hated that twist in Gustave's story. Ticked me off so much.
Unlimited Saga. Bought it on a whim after much debate. How much debate? One year of debating. I finally buckled down and spent $10 on it. A great 10 spot spent. I love this game immensely. It's refreshing but can be repetitive. Hard to understand for the first couple hours, but if you put forth the effort things become quite easy. Heck I'm playing it now with Kurt with over 40 hours into his quest. Most of the time is idle, mainly because the battles were so hard in the beggining.Into oblivion I shall venture, whose depths I shall never return from, yet I care not. Re: Saga Frontier
SaGa Frontier was probably one of my first non-linear RPGs, and so it was something new for me. I enjoyed most of it. The battle system was more than bearable, I liked the magic acquisition, the party choices, etc. For such a nonlinear game, the stories were pretty well intact and not too spacey or sparse... I think the only one I didn't like was Lute's. I would have rather explored one of the other characters like Doll or Kylin or Silence.
All in all, I liked the game. I haven't played SaGa Frontier 2 or Unlimited SaGa, but of the two, SF 2 looks more appealing to me.
