Valve's announced that the PS3 version of Portal 2 will be quite chummy with its PC and Mac cousins come February 9, revealing full cross-platform compatibility: PS3 users can chat with Steam users, play multiplayer with them and even partake in cloud-based storage. The disparity between the PS3 and PC/Mac versions appears to be about non-existent now.

Additionally, those who pick up the PS3 game are ensured a free voucher for the Steam Play version of the game, should they link their PSN and Steam accounts. "We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases," said Valve's Gabe Newell.

A lot of non-EA games are still only 50 bucks. Civ 5, Rift, DCUO, Witcher 2, etc. so I am not sure. Most likely they aren't going to sell for 60 since they're valve, but we'll see.

Even if its 60 dollars, you're getting 2 games. PS3 and PC version.

Keep and activate the digital version voucher.
Sell PS3 version of Portal 2 sans the voucher for about 70% of asking price on half.com.

Wow. If this does happen, that is perhaps the best console-exclusive incentive a multiplatform game has had this gen. Beats the hell out of unique DLC (usually just a timed exclusive anyhow) or minor improvements in framerates or graphics. Pity it's on the wrong system for me.

More than likely if Gabe mentioned Cloud Based storage. Its one of the many things I love about Steam.

Either that or you can load your save on others PS3s only, which would kind of be stupid. I would imagine though if they're letting PS3 play with PC players, the saves will probably be interchangeable from PS3/PC.

Perhaps Gabe is just trollin' though.
