    Paladin

If anyone wants the new one now , before the Pavilion gets it up again, post here and I'll email it to you.

This is the topic for the game Paladin by me. This is designed to keep all the reviews and discussion about Paladin together and easy for me to find.

    Paladin Forum: http://doansdomain.proboards27.com/i...?board=William
    Paladin Demo: Pavilion Submissions Forum

    About the latest demo:

This is designed to be the final demo of Paladin with -everything- just as it will be in the final version (but only up to a certain point of course).

Storywise, I put a ton of time into making the cutscenes as good as I can and I don't want to spoil anything. Play it and see for yourself.

    Gameplaywise, the demo includes:

8 Classes with 5 abilities to teach. Obtain Classes by meeting a Master's (someone capable of teaching you a certain Class) requirement(s). Train as that Class to learn new abilities.

Chrono Cross-like level system. All party members will level and power-up upon completing a dungeon.

Extreme System. Obtain and use Extremes (Limits basically) with the various party members.

Guardian Summoning. Depending on how you answer the questions at the beginning of the game the party members will have different Guardians they can call upon to help them in battle.

Character Battle Dialogues. Each party member has roughly 45 different messages they can say during battle to make it more interesting. Nick has roughly 120 messages.

All Custom Visual Effects and Enemy Actions made from scratch by me.

Size proportion altering of all character models as well as some objects.

True or False Minigame. You'll see when you play, he he.

9 Custom Songs. These are completely built from scratch and will be used in my game. Listen to them while exploring the World Map.

Custom Inn Song made from scratch by me.

Custom Row System. Depending on which row you put each party member in their stats will be altered. There is a front row, back row, and middle row.

About 50 BGMs that will randomly be selected to play during battle depending upon curtain circumstances (normal battle, goofy battle, spooky battle, boss battle, etc.).

6 BGMS for the dungeon while walking around. I know you're probably thinking this isn't worth mentioning, but it is; you'll see what I mean.

Quick Save Feature. Quick Save will temporarily save your game. You only have to do the painfully slow real Save once at the end before you turn off your console.

Custom Menu System with several helpful features like...

Quick Shop - Shop at any previously visited shop instantly from the menu when not in a dungeon.

Help - Nick will say more specifically where you're supposed to go and why; with this you should never not know where to go.

Class Change - Change party members' current class anywhere.

Row Change - Change party members' current row anywhere. The front row boosts STR but decreases DEF and the back row does the opposite. The middle row doesn't alter anything.

Character Change - Change your current party members' anywhere. Nick must be in the team at all times though.

Map Music - Change the current Custom Music played while on the World Map.

Special Stats - View special stats otherwise not viewable in the default menu.

Save - Quick Save or Save your game when on the World Map or on a Save Point.

    ------------------

Total, the demo includes all these custom features above as well as:

    A lot of cinematic cutscenes.
Two huge interactive cities to explore.
    One smaller place to explore.
The first full dungeon of the game.
    The World Map to explore.
Tons of items and equipment (you'll see).

So have fun! Tell me what you think here!!

If anyone wants the new one now , before the Pavilion gets it up again, post here and I'll email it to you.

    Re: Paladin

For those that already posted in this topic before the Pavilion crash, I more or less remember what all of you said, and for the comments and suggestions on the demo I've already worked in numerous changes based on your suggestions.

I'd also like to note that last I knew, in 2 days my demo'd gotten 16 downloads, so add 16 to whatever the re-submission of it says as total downloads.

      Re: Paladin

I played through the the rest of your demo and I am thinking that i must of had an earlier version or i am dumb ( its probably that i am dumb) It seemd like i didn't have a question to answer at the begining and once i left town to go see the play that was it. I could walk around on your world map but there wasn't much there but a slime and and a bird. did i have an early version? i am going to try and download it again this time from the submissions part. before it was from the front page and just under RPG maker 2 demos so that might have been an old link.

yeah now i realize that i didn't play the new version. but i look forward to it

        Re: Paladin

Really nice game i'm in the volcano and the camera was pretty helpful but it's pretty nice to have a encounter guage since i notice the different colors to warn if there was a random battle nearby.

And i've master 2 of the classes already i can't wait for the full version.

But how did you make a system for the battle like that for equipment certain skills that can't be used in combat.

Really nice strategy it forces the player to equip certain weapons for certain attacks but it would be better if there was a warning instead of selecting it and then saying wrong weapon type.

I wonder how you did that?

          Re: Paladin

Yes, OrinMaxden, you played the old demo. The Pavilion crash deleted my newer one for the time being. Check the Submissions RPGM2 Demos Forum and the new topic and file should be up soon. I apologize for that. I've actually already re-submitted the new one to the Pavilion, yesterday, but they don't have it up yet.

It's a little tricky, but basically I made a script that checked MP and weapon type and put it in the direct effects for abilities where normally the checking MP would be. I can post it more specifically later if you'd like.

edit: Please do play the new one once they get it up again, it anihilates the older one. I thought they'd have it up since all they have to do is okay it (and it's the exact same as the other one I did before the crash)...

              That's good.

It should be up soon; Valkysas said he's been working really hard at re-doing the whole submissions system and that's why the demos aren't up yet.

If you would like it sooner you can still private message me your email (or post it here) and I'll send it to you.

Thank you to everyone who's supporting me and my games! I anxiously await your comments!!

                Re: Paladin

all in all it was a fun game. I like all the custom stuff you did. It worked really well and i can tell you put a lot of hard work into it. I like how you have to find the trainers for different classes. and the skills that use different weapons is really cool makes for lots of planning, battles aren't just a lot of hitting attack all the time to hury them up. I was using charm a lot so i could plan other attacks it was cool. I like that you had a long first dungen but you don't get attacked every freaking step. It looks like you put a lot of time into that balance. and the warning system is really cool lets you know if you need to heal right away or not. I do have a few questions/suggestions.

                1. are the two citys suppose to be back to back or was that just for the ease of the demo? Also the harbor....

                2. The diaolog is kind of making your characters out to be male pigs and the girls all giggley over the "big strong men". If its suppose to be that way to be funny, then it was really funny. if your trying to be serious um....yeah

                3. for your citys. I like how you made them into big towns by being able to go map to map. Also i like the insides of your buildings i can tell you had to custum make them all. I do have 2 ideas
3a. If its suppose to be a Really big city ( there are lots of people so i am just guessing here) it should have roads, or path ways of some kind. This will also make it easier to see were there is more town and were you will walk out of town. It should be really easy to add. just add a tile texture on the map editor for the paths to other parts of town and leave it as grass for the edges. that way if your following the path you will go all over town and if you walk off the path at the edge of some buildings you know you will leave town.
3b. Some of the inside of your buildings are VERY crowded. I can understand lots of poeple walking around on the outside but there are usually like 3+ people in every building. in the main buildings Churches/training centers i can understand they might be busy but some of them are very busy. I got stuck in a church pew ( spelling?? the bench thingys in a church) cause some guy wouldn't get the hell out of my way.

                4. when your in a battle the first menu that has fight auto and flee also has equip. but equip just adjust the text speed.

                5. sometimes your world map sits under your menus making them hard to read. not sure what to tell you cause i know this is a hard thing to deal with if you want your world map on the screen. (i have tried this in my own game to no aval. i just gave the party a map that they can open on the world map.)

                6. I can't really complain cause my gammor SUCK BIG HAIRY BUTT and i need my girlfriend to spell check and punctuate everything for me but you might need someone to run through your text and fix your puctuation. you use ; and : a lot and you shouldn't. if you don't have a key board then my hat goes off to you for writing all that text with your controler. ( he he this post is a shining example of my own spelling and grammor)

                7. Your story seemed good from what i saw, but if this Big Bang thing was so world changing you should at least have some towns people talking about it and the war a little more. It feels like it comes out of nowhere when you talk to william. ( maybe you do, but i stopped talking to townies after a while. there are a lot of them after all.)

                8. In the begining (which was cool, made me think of ogre battle) it seemed like you mentioned two names One was Hardy Lexington and then when they go to help him fight the pirates he says "Lawrence thank you" so i don't understand why Lexington makes him think of "the incedent". but then again this might all be part of the story that i didn't get to yet.

I know i had a lot of things on the list but i did like your game and can tell you put lots of work into it. (if i put my game up as a demo everyone would hate it. i spend most my time going back and fixing crap i don't like anymore.) I know your final game will be really great and a good example of the power of RPG maker 2.

I hope this was some helpful feedback
thanks for letting me play your game

                  Re: Paladin

Thank you very much for playing the game and giving so much for me to work with!

"1. are the two citys suppose to be back to back or was that just for the ease of the demo? Also the harbor...."

Yep, the world map's not done yet so I just placed them near each other. Really, the locations in the demo are up in the northwestern part of the map, but I haven't got to that part of it yet.

"2. The diaolog is kind of making your characters out to be male pigs and the girls all giggley over the "big strong men". If its suppose to be that way to be funny, then it was really funny. if your trying to be serious um....yeah"

Do you mean the cutscene's dialogue, with Nick, William, Kylie, and the sailor? I hadn't thought of it that way before, but I can really see what you mean. I dunno, that's just the way each of them is. I have other females later that are tough and serious, but Kylie's the spunkiest and whatnot. Or do you mean with Miles and Kylie? Yep, Miles and Kylie are like that. That's why Miles isn't a party member.

"3a. If its suppose to be a Really big city ( there are lots of people so i am just guessing here) it should have roads, or path ways of some kind. This will also make it easier to see were there is more town and were you will walk out of town. This is an awesome idea. I'll work with it to try to get something to help with this (Hedrum also commented on this before the crash). I use the same 'Map' for all the interiors and exteriors so I can't do exactly that, but I'll try to come up with something.

"3b. Some of the inside of your buildings are VERY crowded. I can understand lots of poeple walking around on the outside but there are usually like 3+ people in every building. in the main buildings Churches/training centers i can understand they might be busy but some of them are very busy. I got stuck in a church pew ( spelling?? the bench thingys in a church) cause some guy wouldn't get the hell out of my way."

Yeah, I tested a lot and removed ones that I noticed were more likely to block the player, but I kind of like how it's so busy (almost) everywhere.

"4. when your in a battle the first menu that has fight auto and flee also has equip. but equip just adjust the text speed."

Yeah, I know. *sigh* It was a tough choice, but I went with that so that it'd say Equip where Options normally goes in the default menu.

"5. sometimes your world map sits under your menus making them hard to read. not sure what to tell you cause i know this is a hard thing to deal with if you want your world map on the screen. (i have tried this in my own game to no aval. i just gave the party a map that they can open on the world map.)"

I noticed this too and wondered if it would be a nuisance. It covers up the last party member's HP/MP display when using the default menu in a dungeon. I'll see how I like it with the map in the top right corner like it is on the world map (that way it just blocks the money display).

"6. ( he he this post is a shining example of my own spelling and grammor)"

Yeah, I think Vespuleth'll do that a little when he plays. A lot of times I use commas where they shouldn't grammatically be, but with reason. I actually have spell-checked everything and there shouldn't be any spelling errors in it.

"7. Your story seemed good from what i saw, but if this Big Bang thing was so world changing you should at least have some towns people talking about it and the war a little more. Yeah, I wanted it to be new to the player when it said it in the cutscene. I'll have more and more people talking about it in the next three cities.

"8. In the begining (which was cool, made me think of ogre battle) it seemed like you mentioned two names One was Hardy Lexington and then when they go to help him fight the pirates he says "Lawrence thank you" so i don't understand why Lexington makes him think of "the incedent". but then again this might all be part of the story that i didn't get to yet."

Yep, the player'll learn later. Everything comes together more and more as the story continues.
