    Silent Hill: Downpour

Remember Silent Hill 8? It will be called Downpour. Upcoming issue of Game Informer (the one showcasing ESV: Skyrim) will have information on it.

I read that they are bringing back things like Puzzle difficulty, and no connections to the cult plotline. I was like 'yay.' But then I read that boss battles will feature QTEs, so then 'boo.'

    Some facts from the article:
    - The game's story doesn't have any connections to the past titles of the series save for the town of Silent Hill.
    - The player will have to make various choices affecting the outcome of the game and relationships with other characters.
    - There is a choice of puzzle difficulty levels once again.
    - Water plays a significant role in the game and acts as a trigger to world's transformation.
    - Nightmare world locations in the game are not remixed versions of the already visited places, but will play out as standalone levels.
    - The game combines over-the-shoulder view with the fixed classic Silent Hill camera.
    - Murphy is no warrior and fights are to be avoided if possible.
    - There will be boss battles with QTE system.
    - There is no weapon inventory in the game. Murphy can have one weapon at a time only. As weapons he can use various objects he finds in the environment. All weapons have limited durability and will eventually break.
    - The game takes place in the unexplored southeastern part of the town. There will be a subway system to make transportation easier to a big number of locations presented in the game.
    - It will take you over 10 hours to beat the game if you explore of all the locations and do various sidequests.

Thank god for the developers. Doing all the things people dread in video games.

If they want the player to not fight, then do it clocktower style. But don't put in weapons that break.

I dunno, I think it sounds neat. Wasn't electricity supposed to be a big deal?

I disagree. Considering avoiding fights is pretty much the point of survival horror, I don't consider this something most people dread.

Remember every other Silent Hill game that came between that and Silent Hill 3? :3

I thought it sounded great right from the start. People thought I was crazy.

So, they're basically bringing back the Origins weapon system?

I kind of like that you can only carry one weapon at a time, since it basically makes sense. You can't carry a propane tank in your pockets while wielding an IV stand. Though you should be able to keep a firearm in your pocket, especially if it's a handgun.

So I guess they went the other way and missed the happy medium again.

This one's weird to me. Last time Silent Hill functioned like an adventure game with a hub was... Silent Hill 4.

Who's developing this one, anyways? It's not the Shattered Memories guys, is it?

I dunno, what is it about exploration and monsters you'd be better off running from that screams "disaster" to you people? At the risk of becoming the silent hill series' version of Jeroak here I'll say that so far I'm digging this news (aside from the QTEs). As far as the combat, sounds like how condemned worked, again, not the worst thing.

It all comes down to the story though, and I'll admit it doesn't have the most exciting premise.

And no it's some other company making this one.

A new developer is on this, though one of the heads of Climax (SM developer) is overseeing this game.

It wasn't scary but it wasn't trying to be. Besides when was the last time a game was scary? Okay, I've heard Amnesia is but I haven't played it yet. Besides that.

I was also not impressed with shattered memories. It had some nice music though~

I'll most likely borrow this new one, too, since I haven't wanted to invest in any of the recent SH offerings.
