I bought the game 9 years ago from my stepbrother in Georgia. 12 bucks, which was actually a decent price for just a Game Boy Color Cartridge. The game's back story is pretty corny. Rayman's sleeping, and he gets woken up by this evil force who decides to kidnap the woodland creatures or something. Every now and then, I'd just plop the game in my SP and play until I got tired, since I had beaten the game already. The game starts off relatively easy, and then gets really difficult in the latter stages. The most frustrating stages happen to be the two right before the boss. The former is when you have to evade your evil twin who follows and copies your every move, and if he touches you, you die instantly. The next stage is some bull**** backwards zone where left is right and vice versa.
Anyway, after you beat the game (and if you manage to save the long ass symbols needed as your password), you can actually go back to the stages where you missed "the cages" which free the animals and get you one step closer to a perfect game. My personal best was 94 percent, and I couldn't get further than that because...well, I lost the box where I had written all my passwords.
So, once you free all of the animals from the cages and get 100 percent completion, the "fun" doesn't stop. There are these 4 bonus stages that make even the most difficult stages earlier in the game look tame. Lots of jumping, avoiding fire, spikes...I managed to get through them all after losing a few lives. After you get through the four extra stages of hell, there's one final stage called "time attack" where you can earn some extra lives doing the various timed challenges from found in all the stages you've entered before.
Hope you enjoyed the long read, ladies and gentlemen. I haven't made a topic in a while and figured I'd make this post about my most recent conquest. Maybe I should pick up Mega Man 4 again...
