What game gave you the most JOY or FUN this year? (gaming experiences encouraged)

Please note I'm not asking for the best game. Yes, there is a diference. I'm asking you what game you played that you personally enjoyed the most or had the most fun with. It could be heavily flawed or not the best, but just whatever you had the most fun with. Please share your personal experiences.

For me, it was Dead Rising 2 and all of its downloadable variations (case west, case zero). The biggest reason was the co-op. Me and my brother and friends would get together, kill some zombies, make rediculous weapons, do rediculous stuff, yet still advance one of our story while the other got closer to level 40 (I think DR2 helped me "get" MMOs, not that I still play them). It was the perfect combination of socializing w/ false sense of accomplishment w/ advancing a story w/ some sandbox moments thrown in that I'll never forget, like my brother football grenading innocent people on accident. Good times.

Best fun I've had, although probably cliche, is playing Call of Duty with all my friends back from high school. Getting on, swearing, playing the game, talking about whatever. It's a real good time.

Other than that I have to say the most fun I've had this year playing a game by myself is definitely Demon's Souls. I would still be playing it if I hadn't somehow misplaced my copy of the game, I still think someone stole it, but I guess I'll never know.

Why WOULDN'T the best game be the game you enjoyed the most?

Anyways, I didn't feel JOY for most of the time playing it, but Heavy Rain's been my favorite of the year, followed by Enslaved.

Because I can't get away with calling Super Mario Galaxy 2 a boring waste of time...that, and some of the games I have the most fun with are heavily flawed. Red Dead Redemption was an excellent game, but it bored me for hours.

          Fun is heavily subjective.

WHO CARES IF YOU HATE SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2. SUPER MARIO ISN'T EVEN REAL

Yee, that's why I'm making a destinction between "game of the year" and game you had the most fun with. They are different. Some people might make technology or pushing the industry forward, or adding a new experience to the market as some of the deciding factors for GOTY.

That should only factor into the game of the year if it meant you enjoyed it more because of it.

I see the distinction. I'd give Game of the Year to Mass Effect 2 in terms of scope, detail and progressing video games as a medium, but the one game that gave me the distinct kid-in-a-candy-store feeling? Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's online multiplayer.

I had no idea that virtual tag would be so exhilirating. It's one of those games that offers the possibility of "the unique moment". After a match you can run to your friend and be like, "YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST DID TO THIS POOR SCHMUCK," or even, "YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT THIS ASSHOLE DID TO ME." And attaining victory online requires the perfect balance of luck and skill, so even a big loser can have fun with it.

                  I see the distinction Kire's trying to make, I just think it's a false one I don't agree with~

I think it makes perfect sense and you're being purposefully obtuse.

My Game of the Year would probably be Nier in how admirable of a game it is in its scope and how it bridges a relationship with the player. Storyline, voice acting, characters, and dialogue are all AAA, but the actual game itself it wrapped up in a lot of fat.

The game I had the most fun with this year was FFXIII. The battle system is really amazing but actual design draws from far too restricting of a palette. If they basically made FFXIII but made it more open-ended in respects to both job/ability progression and exploration it'd be one of my most favorite games ever.

If you don't see the value in differentiating between the two, I would argue that you don't really understand it at all.

Joy? I suppose Reach over Live with my buddies back home, really brings back the days of the couch before life hit us all in the face.
