Soooooooooooo...I'm kinda half and half about Coen Bros. movies. Sometimes I do enjoy them, sometimes I say, "eh, it was technically good, but I really didn't enjoy it all that much."
That said, this is just a straight forward, masterfully acted western. Hell, if it weren't for the excellent direction and cinematography, I probably wouldn't guess for one minute that it was a Coen Bros. movie. This is probably their most accessable movie since Lebowski. I enjoyed the whole ride.
If you're wondering "why the remake in the first place," apparently it's much more true to the book, but just watching what I have of the original, the tone is very different and I have to reiterate that the acting was phenomenal. The little girl blew me away almost immediately...she's very impressive.
Predictions? The girl wins best supporting actress at the Oscars, Jeff Bridges is nominated for best supporting actor, and Coen Bros. are nominated for best director for the Oscars...they may eek out a best pic nomination because they are who they are and it's been a while since we had a straight up Western this enjoyable (plus they're the friggin' Coens).
