    A good class system, need help!

    As some of you probably read on the general boards, I'm doing my own Final Fantasy-esque game. But I have one big problem- A good, working, legit class system. I have a basic idea for it:

    Simon- Starts out as Warrior -> Knight -> Dark Knight -> Black Knight
    |---> Paladin -> Onion Knight

    You see, the split is where it gets interesting. After Simon Upgrades to the Knight, he can then choose between Paladin and Dark Knight (after certain conditions are met, of course). Which ever he chooses, he can't turn back, but the class he picks also gets an Upgrade. Make sense?

    I need some help on how to make this work, and keep in mind that there a 3 other characters that have the same class spread (albeit a different class)

    Please and Thank you!
    Currently working on "Huntmaster" (WORKING TITLE) on RPGM3.

    This sounds neat, and can be done, but I need more information from you as far as how it might be done. First, will you be changing the character's portrait and/or model with each class change? Second, when you say "after certain conditions are met", what conditions are these?

      This sounds interesting, but yeah, if you want legit class changes, you're going to nead a bunch of Simon clones, each with his own special class. And since you're going to have 3 other guys, that's a lot of characters to use, which eats up the limit.

        Sorry I meant to post here that I've scratched the idea. If you have suggestions though still, I could use it in another game. But for now my 4 characters are just going to have 1 class each:

        Simon- Prince (Summoner)
        Feran- White Mage
        Mog- Moogle (Black Magic)
        Hanzo- Ninja

          Yeah, RPGM3 does not have any easy way to allow for changing character classes. As D13 said above, you'd need seperate character models for each change, and to the best of my recollection, there is zero way to track HP and stat upgrades unless you as a developer know exactly how many HP/what stat values/what level each character has when you allow the class change.

            Or, you could ignore RM3's idea of "classes" (which are stupid) entirely and create your class system using a single character using your own abstractions of "class". The only major drawback I can think of is all classes combined would need to have 16 or fewer unique skills.

              Yup yup. Realistically, for a short game, and with 3 "upgrades" or "class changes" available, you could have 5 different spells/skills for each class, in addition to one starter spell/skill. I guess this would be possible for a longer game as well, but as I'm discovering (again) playing through Series 1, a lack of continually-gained spells or skills leads to some dull, dull encounters.
