View Full Version : Well, that sucked

Well, as you can see, the pavilion ran into a wee bit of trouble. we lost a lot. we lost the entire pavilion. it was completely erased and I was locked out from logging in via FTP or the server's Control Panel for several hours. The most recent full-site backup that was available was from July 9th, so thats what we're running off.
I have no idea what caused the problems, but I'm going to find out. If people can tell me exactly what happened the last time they saw the pavilion, I'd appreciate it. something big happened, and I don't want it happening again.
If you submitted a game between July 9th and now, re-submit it. If you registered after July 9th, I'm sorry, but you're gonna have to re-register. everything from after july 9th is gone, including the extensive work I did on the site's actual scripting.
I dont know if it was a hacking attempt, or if the server had one massive hiccup.
This is going to take a lot of time to fix. all forum data from the past month is gone, and I doubt it can be restored.
Re-submit any games or demos that were lost ASAP. I want to fix everything I can as fast as I can. RPG Maker 3 is going to be out september 20th and we CANNOT afford any more delays like this.
If a person was responsible for this, we'll get them. doesnt matter that all the last month's data was lost, there are other things tracking access to the server other than just this server itself.

That's really messed up, Valk. I'll try to help if I can.

I was up until about 4:30am(pacific time) and the Pavilion was running just fine.
Yeah, this does suck.

I wondered why I was getting that strange message whenever I tryed to go to the Pavilion. At least you had a backup to go to; unlike Ezboards, which still hasn't recovered any of the lost data.
It looks like my new Crown of Order demo is still here, so I must have summited that more then a month ago.
I hope you find out what happened, so that this doesn't happen again. I also hope this wasn't a visious attack. I hate to think people have nothing better to do then crash other people's web sites.
Aiigh, this blows, man! My post count!
Ah, well. We've merely lost a month's worth of good crap. Might as well hit the ground running!
On the bright side, I haven't gotten that negative admin rep for saying shaddap, yet, so yay.

Man, it would almost be worth someone doing this just to get back at them.

Man, that sucks. Why the **** would someone do this?
I'm betting it's one of those asshole PC RPGMers. They're so immature, they never learn and they just keep doing **** like this all the time. Jesus, grow up.

As I said in the Site Info topic, everything was working perfect around 8:30 AM Central this morning, and then it suddenly stopped. I got my post in the Guitar II topic, hit New Posts, and the error message showed up. The bad part is that it was pointless to have posted that page-long thing about my guitar playing. The good thing is that a certain topic is gone, and I can still move forward with a plan I had a long long time ago.
It still sucks that this happened, but how often does a person get to have a 1,000th post more than once?
It's significantly worse since we lost cash, too. I'll help remedy that problem.

we didnt lose cash, its just that there's a lot of actual, physical damage on the server that is going to cost money to repair. its not looking like it was an attack, now that I've looked at everything, it seems like some of the hardware got fried. its functioning okay, despite the damage (we have less ram now) so it's okay if we take a while to fix things.
That's sort of what I meant. I'll still contribute.

How did the people who maintain the server let that happen? I thought that a bunch of companies had safeguards against these kind of things. :\

yeah, they do. but the problem is that I own the actual server, and any costs for it's maintenance or repairs fall on me. the only thing I pay the monitoring company for is the connection, and housing for it. I also pay them to install new hardware from time to time.

If it was a fried peice of hard ware, see if the warranty on the parts affected is/are still in effect. Also you could write an angery letter to the company/s that produced the faulty parts saying that you lost very imprtant data. then we could all sign it and you could send it to them. The least they could do is send you free replacements.
What you discribe though sounds like an act of god rather then faulty parts. You probably got a major power surge. one so big that the protector couldent handle it. but that to be one HELL of a surge, most strips now are rated for lightning strikes.
In any event you have my sympathy. I know how much it sucks to loose data because your computer crapped out.

Yes, that did indeed suck.
Since you asked what we saw;
When I tried to visit yesterday I received an all white screen with a message stating that the "site was not found" and it had a link to inform the administration.
I did not use it (I guess I should have, and will if it ever happens again).
I assumed that, since I knew you owned your servers, you were doing some vital maintenance or something.
I wish I could help you get things back together. Feel free to post things "regular people" can do to help if there are any.
Peace.

I was around at 4:30 am central time. It was perfectly fine.
A month isn't a big deal. If we would have lost everything, yeah, that would have hurt quite a bit.
I hope the person who did this is found. I don't think it's a PC RPG Maker fan, as we haven't done anything to provoke them, but who knows.

I can send a few bucks your way if it will help you out? it wouldn't be very much cause i am poor but i could do like $10.00 or so. Not saying anyone has to but if a lot of people gave a little maybe we can get you a new server.

we're fine for now. the repairs can wait. I should know later this week exactly what happened.
