we lost a lot. we lost the entire pavilion. it was completely erased and I was locked out from logging in via FTP or the server's Control Panel for several hours. The most recent full-site backup that was available was from July 9th, so thats what we're running off.

I have no idea what caused the problems, but I'm going to find out. If people can tell me exactly what happened the last time they saw the pavilion, I'd appreciate it. something big happened, and I don't want it happening again.

The Pav is my homepage, so when I got on the net this afternoon I saw an error message that said something along the lines of "There was an error accessing the gateway. Please e-mail the admin at..." That's about it.

There's no way to recover the lost data?

doesnt look like any of the forum data can be restored. I'm going to try everything I can though.

one thing thats going to change is that I'm not just having external backups done once a month like I did. previously, an on-server backup was made every day, and once a month the backups were burned to discs for archival. well, now I'll be doing full backups every single day, so we wont get hit this bad ever again.

I was still doing my poll about the family guy thing I started, i tried to log in yesterday but it did not let me. i got in today and it told me my name/password was not real. so i just made them again. the last time i was on nothing weird was happening though.

I know how you feel, Dreamy K. I'm back 9 positive rep points now. :(

I was on earlier today, had to be right before whatever happened because I refreshed or backed up and suddenly couldn't get in. I wish I had some idea what happened but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Only a handful of members were online at the time.

I'm giving out random +5 reputation increases to just about everyone I see post today, so it may get back to what it was, or higher.

Darn also we lost the recent game demos for RPGM2.

Freakishly enough, I kept all my rep points, but when I check my User CP, only the rep I had way back then shows up the list.

this backup is from when I was moving the games over to hidden directories, that arent on the forum. dont go by what the forum says to see if something isnt on the site anymore, go by the main site listings.

Wow, this is a bummer.

I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say that we appreciate all that you're doing though, Valk.

I was around when the Pavilion booboo occured. I was doing my usual rounds of posting positively and taunting Caciss and Magus when the "database error" page popped up suddenly. Everything was fine seconds before that. Nothing suspicious in particular.

Yeah, it was all like "OOPS! Database error! Oh man!" Really vague error message. Then it changed to the screen Renamon is talking about, where it was like "This page doesn't exist." Yeah.

Yeah all I saw was something that said there was a database error and the admin has been emailed. Try hitting refresh and it may help.

Though of course hitting refresh did nothing. I was like wtf, hopefully no one hacked it since that seems to be the new rage on the internet.

"Yeah man I totally hacked this random message board"
"dude your so cool now"
"I know"

I really hate those people that have nothing better to do than hack random websites.

Man my post count halved :(.

I am also glad I saved my game description to disk, though I already had most of the info on it in another file, that one just summed it up a lot better.

I was posting this morning around 8:30 AM Central, and I had just added a post to the Guitar II topic. Then I hit the 'New Posts' button and everything went AWOL like everyone else said. I'm saddened by this.

Well I'm not sure if my rep is the same, though it seems to remember the positive rep I got the 11th last month.

I lost 10 points, but i only care about the 2 "Crab Patrol" ones from Nix.
Those were something special :(

I'll leave you more weird comments, I swear!

Aw, I lost two Nixon comments too, Marc! :(

Those were always my favorites.

I got a database error earlier today, dunno if that helps.

That really sucks. I sent a long ass detailed Private message to someone and they never got it, so I had to send sub-par half-ass one. That stinks. =-( I hope we find out who did this and if you need any help Valk just ask and I'm plenty of members(myself included) would be glad to help in anyway. *checks his rep* Yeah, it's all there. I hadn't gotten rep in two months ANYWAYS. but yeah, it's all there. lol

I lost exactly ten points. That makes me sad, but it's not a big deal really. =(

You could have your server pack the database and the files, then email them to a gmail account. That's what my friend set up for elowel.org and it works great.

I don't know how big the files would be, but Gmail has a ton of space, and you could always burn them to disc.

I don't even know how many rep points I lost. I never even checked. Nor do I really care, for that matter.

A shame the site was hacked. If this was my site, I'd hunt the ****ing 'hacker' down.

Oh, and the ban warning list needs updating.

The Toecutter
08-15-2005, 04:44 PM
Considering what happened, I'd simply forgive the ban warnings that were held, but I see your point. Valk's probably working his ass of to sort things out though, considering the hassel this crash caused.

Man, this is all pretty annoying, but at least we only lost a month's worth of stuff. It could have been a lot worse.

Normally, I would agree with you.

But the two current ban warnings are very serious, and I don't think they should be overlooked.
