Hangover in a can deemed unsafe

    Better stock up.

I don't like these things personally, I get a hangover literally every time I drink one, I don't think they should be outlawed though. I mean I can just mix Rockstar and Jack Daniels or Jaegermeister together for the same effect anyway.

Something nicknamed 'black-out in a can' is not something i would ever think to drink.

I don't really understand the appeal of alcohol in general though.

        And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope

I love me my alcohol, but I never see the point in mixing them with an energy drink. I had "Joose" once on a whimsy because someone mentioned how hilarious the name was--It was so terrible I had to set down half the can and get buzzed enough on old-fashioned beer before I considered finishing it.

The Four-Loko craze I don't get. I've read some bad, bad things involving that alcohol.

                God, drinking alcohol is dangerous?

                This changes everything!

                  I think they taste awful.

I'm not sure where I stand on the issue, though I do think the argument that its "no different from a mix drink!" is a bit off. A Jack and Coke has like a small fraction of the caffeine of one of those things.

That, however, applies to a standard mix drink. The worst night of my life involved copious amounts of vodka & red bulls, which is essentially the same thing as these (if not worse).

I can see the argument that being super-buzzed on caffeine (stimulant)nulls the depressant effects of alcohol, leading you to think you're even more invulnerable than alcohol does on its own. Its no bueno. I'm not sure that means it should be banned in a form that does the work for you (if you order vodka and red bull, I suppose thats your business. You don't see Svedka or Red Bull mixing their products and offering to you at a gas station, though).

This all gets at a bigger issue of how responsible we should hold a company for producing a product that is "not good for us." This is obviously a case of high magnitude since alcohol is involved, but I've seen debates over how accountable McDonalds should be for deliberately marketing their nutritiously bankrupt diabetes patties to kids in Happy Meals.

Re: Hangover in a can deemed unsafe

lol, looking on the interwebz I found that Four-Loko has an "UNDISCLOSED" amount of caffeine in it, in comparison a Red Bull only has 80mg, Coffee ~105mg and Mtn. Dew has 55mg. (Apparently now though they are taking the caffeine out, but still leaving in the taurine and other crap energy drinks have)

I think the problem lies in the fact that when you mix a drink yourself you have at the very least a rough sense of idea how much booze you're putting into the mix. The alcohol content of a 24oz. can of Four-Loko is equal to 5 cans of beer.

No wonder these kids in Oregon got extremely sick. Drinking 2 Lokos in a span of an hour is 10 beers, drinking 3 is 15 beers. People probably don't realize that 12% aBc is crazy high and think they are only getting a 1-3 beers out of the drink when they are getting way more. Combined with being "quicker" to drink, and the effects of caffeine, all for $3; no wonder this **** is dangerous.

Some students admitted drinking vodka, rum and beer with Four Loko, which is made by Phusion Projects Inc., of Chicago.
                    Now that's just bad news.

Vicious Attack on Three Gay Men

The street crew sodomized him with a small baseball bat and then forced him to drink 10 cans of the malt beverage 'Four Loko,' according to Kelly.
AWESOME, lets use Four-Loko to commit hate crimes.

The fact that it looks like a regular energy drink kids would buy doesn't help matters either.

With 4loko you just look at the can, it says 12%, and then you multiply 12% by 24 ounces and suddenly you have the amount of alcohol in the drink.

                        Magic!

With mix drinks you have to find out the % of whatever alcohol you use, then you have to eyeball how much roughly you used in comparison to the nonalcoholic, then eyeball how much fluid you have, then you have to do all the extra multiplication.

Sure you can see the physical alcohol go in, but to a student looking to get ****ed up it's not like it matters anyway.

Can't really expect drunk college students to read things, man. Especially when you're mixing the stuff with hard liquor.

So basically, they're banning these things because college students are adding them to their binge repetoir. That's not going to change the core problem, you know, boozing frats. This isn't the first time they've binge drunk unwise combinations either, another bad combination is booze and pot. The pot suppresses nausea, so they don't puke when they get too smashed.

Which is nonsense, because the kids wouldn't be getting fat off Happy Meals if the parents didn't buy them in the first place. The kids that they're marketed to are too young to have their own income and transportation to be getting them on their own, so it's the fault of the parents.
